Photos NOT uploading!

I am trying to upload 300 photos at a time; only a couple go up and the flickr Uploader says it is done! Guess I will try 200 at a time (sigh).

Do any of you have Firefox as your browser? For a while last night, when I was trying to upload two photos, I got a message saying the connection was reset. Did you get The connection was reset as an error message? I got that last night. But after leaving my computer shut off overnight into this morning, the problem disappeared.

Edit - I use the web form for uploading my photos all the time, and that is where I was hit with the problems last night. I did manage to get two uploads done before the problems, even though it took me two tries for the two uploads.

I tried to upload with the Uploadr twice today, running OSX, and Firefox.
Uploadr crashes without leaving an error message and once managed to load one image, the second time none.

Previously, I never had problems.

The annoying thing is I can start all over again tagging, naming, and so on all my images.

Help!

I'm trying again now running the console to see what messages I'll get...

I'm also having lots of annoying problems with Uploadr. No error messages though. It's just being completely sporadic with how many pictures it sends, if at all. It will not add them to a set when I tell it to, and it doesn't always add my tags. When I select "Done" from the confirmation screen it continues to display photos that were already uploaded. I have never had problems like this before. I restarted my router and try uploading from different machines w/o any luck. I really don't think this problem is on the user end.... Any thoughts from the Flickr staff? Having a Pro account I expect this site to provide consistent service.

oledoe  Pro User  says:

Hi, using Flickr Uploadr I have had exactly the same problem as described by nrvphotography in his 2nd post.
i.e. the first photo will upload, then it says it's done.

The behaviour of the program is a bit weird:
First, the progress bar for the upload of the first picture will go to 100% in no time at all (may half a second).
Then, flickr uploadr appears to proceed to the 2nd photo (with the progress bar progressing at normal speed).
When that is done, Flickr Uploadr says it's finished with all the photos.
When you then click on "See Photos", it shows me the folder with all the photos on my computer (Windows explorer not the browser) instead of my flickr page in the browser!
When I then check on Flickr, only the first photo has been uploaded.

BTW, I have been having this problem for a while now. I would say, roughly since the time when pro users got unlimited uploads. Although I don't necessarily mean to imply that one is linked to the other.

Hope this can be fixed. In the meantime I have been using the upload function on the site, but that's extremely tedious when you need to upload a lot.

I am becoming appalled that no one is on this. Most of us pay for this service and yet there is nearly zero support. If this was plain web hosting there would be a support ticketing system and usually a fairly prompt response to the problem and a solution.

I have been using Flickr since it was early Beta, I am a Flickr fan boy, I have bought accounts for my friends, brought loads of users to it and now for the first time ever I am thinking of leaving.

Lord knows how I would retrieve all my photos and move them to another service, but I would find a way. I am tired of waiting for pages to load, tired of poor service and tired of complacency, I find it insulting.

The little company I loved is still doing a decent job, and the product when it works is amazing, but it lacks the care and beauty of the old Flickr. I don't know if it is being at Yahoo! that has done this or maybe it's just growing pains. Either way, as a consumer I am compelled to look into better solutions for my money.

Edit: Thanks Myles for posting the official response, I really hope this gets fixed and somehow you can throw some more processing power/bandwidth our way, we desperately need it.

I recieved an unknown error message after I started uploader. Unfortnately, I cannot give any more details about the error or the situation that caused the error message. The error occured after I clicked the icon in the Start menu. I am using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and Uploader version 2.3 beta. I assume that there is a miscommunication between Uploader and the flickr servers.

Come ON Flickr !!!!

Get it together. Everyone is having problems with your uploader. I'm trying a set of about 15 photos and it loads 1 at a time and says it's done ... when I upload again, it uploads and doubles the same image.

I have never been able to upload more than maybe 15 images at a time without babysitting the entire process. Why can't we just load our images into "UPLOADER", hit upload and have the images load to our site without all the agrevation. It just isn't worth it.

esteban, you should see the TODO list we have after today. Lots of stuff will be done later this week to help us better deal with what happened today -- something that happened outside of Flickr that we hadn't seen before.

And we're constantly doing what we can to speed the site up while also rolling out new features. Combinations of new hardware, new technologies, better code on our end -- we're looking at it all. We've come a long way in the last 6 months or so, but there's still a lot to do.

And now, back to work.

Hi kat_mieow- unfortunately if there is an unrelated network problem, Uploadr may not always be able to transmit all the files. Currently I can see a significant amount of network traffic loss near your ISP in the UK- specifically on this host: pipex-104706-ldn-b1.c.telia.net which around 50-55% being lost there. If that network path going back to us has the same loss, yes, you could have problems uploading. Some suggestions dealing with uploading problems.

I'm using the Juploader (windows version) and have had no problems, even with large numbers of pictures. Speed of upload depends on the computer I'm using and how fast its connection is.
Juploader also has some nice features for pre-setting the tags and determining what set the pictures will be loaded into (including the creation of new sets).

Kevin says:

misterken and Beckerbuns, both of you happen to be in a very closely related network subnet on SBC. Corrupt files with color banding is not something that is globally affecting uploads to Flickr right now. It's quite possible there was something flaky happening on a network device at SBC which caused the corruption (and the poor performance you see). In the event this is just a weird coincidence, I did link a few posts above to an FAQ on general uploading issues just above which gives some general suggestions. Thanks!
Posted 62 months ago. ( permalink )

view photos

Beckerbuns  Pro User  says:

Hi, Kevin. I already tried those suggestions yesterday and proceeded to try repeatedly all day to upload using Uploadr. Either one picture gets through -- normal looking or banded or incomplete -- or no pictures get through at all and clicking on "see photos" results in me being bumped back to Uploadr.

Trying the web upload results in a timeout.

So how do I go about getting this fixed. If it IS SBC, how long does it take for these things to be resolved? I am doubting that it's SBC since I am not having problems with any other site or web function; or is there something I am not understanding?

If it is NOT SBC, how/when can it be addressed at Flickr/Yahoo? I see up above, earlier in this topic, something was done to fix the probem. Can this not be looked at again?

Thanks for your time,
Becky
