I am using the Flickr uploadr on OS X also. It seems like its hanging like Roel Smelt's case but actually its just taking a loooong time. If I leave it and go do something else, it eventually finishes.

Also, as he says, the first pic is visible right away.

Also, by checking the site, after the last pic completely appears, the uploadr continues to just grind away for a while...for no reason I can fathom.

[Update: I am still using 10.3.6
Given that my photos *do* upload, unlike others here, I may postpone that 10.3.7 upgrade]

Camino 0.8.2 on Jaguar 10.3.7.

Email the photo in: no problems. Can take a while for the photo to show up (example), but sometimes it's almost instantaneous.

Upload form: it doesn't recognize that the photo was uploaded successfully. I have the window with which I uploaded a few minutes ago (example), the browser already timed out on it, but the red and blue circles are still dancing.

FlickrExport under iPhoto: similarly, doesn't recognize that the operation succeeded, just hangs there (example). Eventually I cancel the upload, iPhoto crashes, and leaves behind a tmp file that if I don't erase it, next time I try to upload something it will upload the same last photo, again and again.

In all these cases I uploaded one photo at a time.

Joe Nixon says:

I have 10.3.7
Uploadr uploads the first pic, but doesn't recognise it as being sucessful and after a while re-uploads it. If I cancel, remove the first photo, and then set it uploading again so the next photo gets uploading, it often screws up (ie. quits, or all the photos disappear and it just sits there looking at me like i never added any photos in the first place).

With iPhoto Export plug-in (version 1.1b2 or whatever, it's the latest version that was just renamed to 1.1 or whatever), it does the same as everyone else. Speaking of which - where is that temp file so i can delete it GustavoG?

With the Upload form (Safari 1.2.4), with a small GIF file it worked fine, but with larger files it never recognised the upload as finnished. I closed the window when the photo showed up in my photostream, so i dunno if it would upload pics multiple times.

Hopefully this'll be fixed soon, as I've shut-up about Flickr recently so as people don't actually listen to me and check it out for once and then have problems and go away not liking it lol! So yeah once it's fixed I can go on at everyone to check out my photos again and use Flickr :)

I'm using Safari on OS X 10.3.7, and uploading directly to the "Upload Photos" page. I tried uploading 4 new photos. When I went to upload the photos, that page that comes up while it's loading looked normal - it acted like it was thinking for awhile like it usually does, but never stopped and didn't ever make it to the page that lets me edit tags & descriptions. I usually open up another page and can see when my photos have loaded. When I did this today, I could see the same photos loading over and over again, and only stopped when I cancelled the original upload page. It was up to about 5 or 6 copies of each photo. I didn't catch it right away because I thought I had deleted all the extras, but that upload page was still running and more kept posting. It was a bummer to delete photos that people had commented on, but I only wanted to keep one version of each photo, of course. Also, the feed to my photos sent out just as many copies to my newsreader.
That's my story.

Uploadr: Will sometimes upload if I ask it to only upload 1 photo at a time. Then hang. Then it gives me an message saying something went wrong. The picture will appear however.

Other times it just give me the error message and doesn't work at all. Then I got to the upload form:

Upload form: Sometimes will give me a 'page not found' page when I submit my upload request. If I try it again it sometimes works. Once the photos are uploaded it hangs and grinds away like it's still uploading something before it gives me the 'page not found' page again.

Same specs, same story as SnowSara. Safari on OS X 10.3.7, and uploading directly to the "Upload Photos" page. Uploading one photo works fine, but when I upload batches, it "hangs". When I cancel the uploading, it turns out the whole batch has been uploaded multiple times.

Perhaps a feature that will stop you from uploading duplicates would help?

Another report of OS 10.3.7 and iPhoto plug-in 1.1.1 with the same issue. The first picture uploads quickly (I check by visiting my photos page), but I guess the plug-in doesn't get confirmation and then eventually tries again if I don't cancel immediately. Is there some sort of acknowledgement that isn't being generated?

Same symptons as all the others, but I doubt that it has anything to do with OS X 10.3.6 vs. 10.3.7, since it all worked just fine on the latter while uploading some photos from MacWorld Expo SF last week.

As an additional comment, I'd highly appreciate it if the Flickr folks would share with us what they are doing to solve the issues. There are some pics waiting to be uploaded. :-/ Thanks!

For the past couple of days, on the first few tries, Uploader Page goes almost instantly to "page not found". When I refresh and get Uploader Page again, it usually posts the photos after two or three tries (but then it still ends with a "page not found" page, have to go to the "Yours" page to actually see them.

As of this evening, the Uploader Page problem has changed. Now, just the form where I had browsed for the image #s goes to "page not found". Instantly. And repeatedly. Haven't been able to get it to work in about 6 tries.

Flickr Uploader has frozen a few times, as well as giving me the error message about an internet connection not being present. I've never had any problems using Flickr Uploader before.

I recently installed Olympus Master Plus 1.11 and I've designated Flickr Uploader as the "registered application". I'm not sure whether this might be causing the problems.

Problem #1 Uploadr only works occasionally. I get the following error (like several others):

Unable to connect to flicker service, internet connection may not be present!

Is Flickr choking on its own success? Are you adding bandwidth and servers as fast as you can?

I CAN upload from the website, but since I'm trying to upload almost 7000 images... browsing and clicking (6 at a time) just won't do - I need that drag the folder option.

Problem #2 Uploadr when it DOES connect and transfer photos, it leaves 1-3 pics in the drag-to area. I go and check Flickr and these images have been successfully uploaded, just not deleted. Not a big deal to delete them manually, but I though it may be a clue to some deeper problem with the Uploadr.

Good luck programming types!

Using either the iPhoto plugin (1.1.1) or the upload feature in 1001, it takes a long time to upload. When using iPhoto it often crashes. When using 1001 I often have to "Force-Quit" the application after finding the photo has loaded in Flickr. I can't do batch uploads in either - it will attempt to upload the same image multiple times.

I also had problems using the bookmarklet to submit a photo from a web page - I had to manually force that to stop as well.

I initally tried a batch of six and got the above behaviour. Then I tried a lone photo without any tags: same result. Using the PictureSynch app, I successfully uploaded a phonecam pic on Jan 17, but attempts to upload more photos later that day using the same app all ended in frustration. Currently any attempt to use the app results in an immediate abort when it tries to connect.

Also on the 17th: Attempted to upload some files manually via Safari. This resulted in an apparently permanent "uploading" screen, which I eventually closed. I found 4 copies of all the new images (which I deleted) and (interestingly to me) none of the IPTC tagging reflected on any of them.

Attempted to use the flickr uploader. This churned away at my hard drive endlessly with no results.

OS X 10.3 using FlickrExport 1.1.1. Watching the network traffic, the photo uploads and then nothing comes back, so the upload just gets stuck. The photo never appeared on the site.

Then I tried the latest Mac Uploadr. Same thing, only this time the photo did show up. Too tired to try XP right now...

Of course, I check this morning and there are three copies of the photo. *sigh* I'm starting to notice that even trying to delete them from my photos page is hanging. (Safari, latest version)

It seems like the photos get deleted, but that there is no response sent back. This seems to match up with the behavior with the uploading. The pix get there, but with no response the client has no idea what to do. Of course, I'm just stabbing in the dark...

OS X 10.3 and the Flickr uploader are very very slow at uploading. Activity Monitor reports almost no CPU usage and bursts every 30 seconds of data out at 1.93K. This reflects what other users are experiencing and what you've noted in your blog news posting -- that it's slow.

I'm so happy! Every morning, I've tried to upload my three daily photos, and every morning it has been an adventure in frustration. I'm a patient guy, so I don't complain.

But this morning, everything was perfect! It was fast and easy, with no errors and no delays! It was like flickr again! Woohoo!

I hope it stays this way. Thanks, guys and gals!

(Er, I use iPhoto with fspeirs' plugin, though I'm not sure it matters at this point.)

I've uploaded around 20 pics since upgrading to fspiers' new upgrade to the iphoto plugin and everything is working just fine now. Speedy uploads, no more server timeouts and so none of the problems related to that. I'm not sure if the server issues are fixed now or if there was something they didn't like about communicating with the old version.

My only problem was that the plugin crashed when i tried to upload during flickr's massage yesterday evening. I've sent crash logs to fspiers.

Possibly related to the uploading problems, and the time taken to verify uploads, but I am seeing "Picture not available) VERY frequently in the "Everyone's" line of photo's on my home page. They are there when I refresh, or click on the page, it seems that the homepage is just trying to show them before they are verified.

Actually, disregard that last line, it is more a description of the behaviour than of any attempt to suggest I know what I am talking about.

I take my retraction back. If that makes sense.

I tried an experiment as I just uploaded a few pics. My home page tried to show them before they were even finished uploading, never mind verified. The "This picture is unavailable" almost as soon as each pic started to upload.

Just though you should know.

small problem, a flag more than a bug - but my Uploadr is all over the map regarding how many % of my bandwidth I've used already this month.

sometimes it's 3%, sometimes it's zero...

Firefox1.0 is my browser, when I upload through a browser. I'm told that I have used 20% of my bandwidth this month as of today.

WinXP when I use the Uploadr tool. I don't know what version of Uploadr I have - I downloaded it when I signed up to Flickr less than a month ago, over the xmas holidays.

Incidentally, when I use the Uploadr tool, I see that the 'temperature gage' icon has increased somewhat during this month (I uploaded 300+ pictures) but the % number that is displayed hovers between 3% and 0% for the month. Today, Uploadr tells me that I'm at 0%.

Uploadr 0.98 on Win XP SP2 on a cable modem / LAN.

When you were down on Sunday night, the Uploadr gave the message " ... no internet connection present" dialog box.

The Uploadr seemed to go into an infinite loop, generating a new dialog box every second or so. It did this whether or not I dismissed the boxes (using the OK button) or not.

Possible confounding factors:
I had just installed the Uploadr and had not rebooted.
I was uploading for the first time.
I was uploading 16 pictures at once.

This morning, after my system had a good night's rest and a reboot, the Uploadr worked fine.

One has to reboot WinXP after installing software?

(I have no idea, I'm a Mac user. No intention whatsoever to start a flame war - just rather surprised at the concept.)

I have never re-started XP after installing Uploadr. I don't even bother shutting anything else down.

Although the amount of times you have to restart XP (and Win in general) for serious reasons (ie farting, 1 mbar air pressure changes, change of season and dust impact to the top of the case) does mean that it is a fairly regular occurence.

Mine has taken to refusing to make any sound (including new mail notifications) after the PC has been on for a few days. And losing the keyboard settings (US/UK) after a while.

You can guess precisely how much that pleases me...

Lagbolt: As I posted earlier in this thread, Uploadr did that to me when I had changed my email address default. Once I had confirmed default properly and changed the settings it was ok.

The constant loop thing is a real pain in the arse, though.

I am having trouble uploading.
Last night, I had to load one picture 3 times over a few hours before it appeared.
Then, feeling somewhat successful, loaded a few more. Next day, they are still not on my page or in my photostream.

I am using an iBook, operating system 9.1, i'm kind of slow - on a dial up right now (although I have had this problem w/ cable modems and DSL also) and my Mac is a 500mghz speed - slow by today's standards....

This is a new problem for me - so I wonder if there is a new problem here.

I use Safari on Mac OS X 10.3.7 and I've completely given up on the Uploadr. When I first had it I thought great! This is awesome! Then after about a week, (this was also during all those massages and flickr spa treatments... love those terms by the way) I couldn't get my uploadr to work. I'd open it, try to drag and drop, and nothing would happen. Then I'd get a pic in, and it wouldn't upload. It just quit working completely! So I just said "srew it!" and started emailing the pics in... which sometimes took a looong time to show up ... now I just use the upload page on flickr which is nice, but it's annoying to only be able to upload a few at a time.

And as per the whole Windows XP thing... that's why I'm now sitting at a Mac. My mom used to have WinME which sucked but worked... then she "upgraded" to XP. Her computer has since had to be taken in and completely overhauled, including getting a new hard drive. In my opinion, XP is just an exercise in futility.,,, but anywayz..

So if flickr uploadr could be fixed so I could use it from my desktop again, it would be awesome! (now if only I could get iPhoto to work again...)

Windows XP, dial-up, uploadr 99

It took me 3 hours to upload 18 pics yesterday, which was stresseful. one of the problems i had was that after 3 or so pictures, uploadr would kick me off saying the internet connection wasn't present - and at the same time i was IM-ing with people, and that wasn't disrupted, and the connection was definitely there. It was slow for me all night, took me about an hour to edit etc the batch. I don't think it's just the dial-up - a friend who broadband uploads says it's slow for her too....
