Badge from my favorites?
|
|
Is there any way to create a badge from my favorites? I'm a non-photographer Flickr fan, so I don't have any photos of my own, but I would like to feature photos I especially like.
Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of. Bad luck.
Do you mind if I give you a piece of advice? Either make an effort to have some photos or explain clearly in your profile why you can't and that you are here only to see photos. An empty profile and no photos scares, confusses and/or make angry some people here (don't ask me why).

Too bad about not having a favorites option with the badges! I'll suggest it in the idea forum to see if it might be an option some day.
As for your piece of advice, it is genuinely appreciated! I'm equally puzzled as to why folks might have a negative reaction to the absence of personal photos, so I'll be glad to add an explanatory note to my profile.
In general, the situation is quite simple: I have no digital camera, and up until last month, I had no way to upload digital images. But, I still have tremendous respect and appreciation for those who are posting original work here, and it is easy for me to spend hours here exploring and bookmarking favorite images. :-D

As per the question about empty profiles/photostreams: I think alot (or at least some) view it suspiciously because of the potential for some "creep" to just create a free account and stalk/harass people without being "caught." I know there's been quite a few people who've created multiple accounts (they keep getting deleted, then they make up another to get around it) and add faves, contacts, participate in groups, et. al. that you can't do as a non-account-holder; for suspicious reasons (at best) and completely malicious or illegal reasons (at worst.)
That being said, I don't think anyone in my family who's got an account has anything in their profiles (and hardly anything in their photos, if at all) because they only occasionally log in to see mine. :) So you never know. But if you're an active user, it's probably a good idea to do what you did, just for others' sake. :) (sad world that we have to be so cautious...)

Neither a film one? you should be able to order your photos in a CD instead of (or besides) printed.
Nonetheless, I understand you. There is a lot of good photographers here. Become a little more involved (commenting, posting in groups, etc.) so that people know you a little better. That works miracles.
[edit] Of course, this comment is for Metta_Z. Don't know why I always end kicked down in the threads.

you can use numerous tools to do stuff with your favourites, one such tool is:
flagrantdisregard.com/flickr/mosaic.php
Mosaic Maker
this does not do exactally what you want but you might like it. basically you can create a mosaic of your favourites and then upload the image to your flickr account and use the resulting image in your blog / website in place of a badge.
it would require work on your part managing your favoutities and creating a new mosaic when they have changed but it might worth a look.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback!
formerly TaGurit: I can see now that my "visual silence" could be perceived as suspicious lurking ... so I appreciate the benefit of your perspective and the additional background on this dynamic.
I will, gradually, participate a little more as life and time permit. Thanks for the encouragement, lucarmar. (I had been reticent to join in previously, since I felt like I was not contributing "my fair share" of photos.)
In any case, Nick, I really appreciate your recommended mosaic maker and all the other tools. What fun! I had always been wondering how folks created these magnificent tapestries! This gives me plenty to keep me occupied now, for quite a good long while.
Many thanks! :-D
