Photo URLs changed...?

Here's Kate  Pro User  says:

Some of my recent photos have started showing up as broken links in my blog.

I posted them by copying and pasting the URL from the Flickr Photo Download page.
I've just gone back to check the pages for the affected photos, and the URLs have changed!

For example, yesterday the URL was:
photos22.flickr.com/38569377_5a6c1031b9.jpg
This URL no longer works.
Today the URL for the same photo is:
static.flickr.com/22/38569377_5a6c1031b9.jpg

Is this a temporary thing - or will I have to go in and edit my blog entries?

Of course - as soon as I've posted this - that first link is working!
But it's still true of many of my other shots.

Hrmm. All you photos appear fine to me. Can you try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page?

(The old images urls should redirect to the new urls.)

Thanks, all clear now. Not sure why it took a while to register, but that wouldn't be the first time a machine ignored the fact that it had been updated. I appreciate you chiming in, Nick.

Your blog violates the Terms of Use. Each image must link back to its respective photo page. Yours do not.

Yes, the photos URLs have changed from the form:

photosXX.flickr.com/123.jpg

to

static.flickr.com/XX/123.jpg

this was done for several reasons, but one of which was to fix a longstanding issue with people (mostly in Europe) not being able to load all photos on a page.

Either way, both URL schemes are 100% compatible: all of the old URLs are given redirects to the exact new URL. Most browsers are fine with this, but apparently IE (or some versions of it) are having difficulty with fetching the new URLs when given the redirect, due to some funky browser caching issue.

We're looking into the issue, but for the quickest resolution, please empty/reset your browser's cache and the problem should go away.

You should NOT have to manually change the old photos URLs to the new URLs.

Shana - the problem will fix itself over time and most users won't have a problem. If you do, you don't have to clear cache -- just hit the refresh button while holding down the shift or control or command key (which one depends on your browser).

I saw broken links this morning and had to change the URLs to the photos. So I dont think the automatic forwarding was working.

jspaw says:

Invictus: the automatic forwarding is working (we're seeing it happen on the servers) but certain browsers (like IE) have issues with their caches.

sorry for the confusion.

clearing the cache works, but it would have been better if you had caught this in testing before changing the URLs. It was unclear why the links were failing. Many will suspect their hosted browser service, etc...

I agree, it would have been better if we caught this in our testing. I wish we did.
