have to sign in every time I load flickr after Y! merge

Jasonaut  Pro User  says:

After merging my Yahoo and Flickr accounts last night, I have to sign in to Flickr every time I go to the site. I'm on Firefox 1.0.1 on Mac OS 10.3.9. Same story in IE. Have not logged out, but am taken to the flickr home page, then have to go through the triple-step process (Flickr home to yahoo/flickr login choice to yahoo sign in). This is pretty obnoxious.

Does this happen even if you don't exit out of the browser? In IE you can keep session information around by doing ctrl-n to create new browser windows, which you can exit without losing the session logins. In firefox, if you don't exit all browser instances, the session info is maintained, no matter how the windows or tabs are created. I really do hope they go with the non-expiring session like myyahoo, as opposed to the 24 hour exiration as well.

When I do that, yahoo services stay logged in for their requisite 24 hours. I'm not planning on merging my IDs for a while, I'm too dependent on the way things work now on the yahoo side...

it certainly wasn't.

I have an old Yahoo account that I rarely use anymore, but I have noticed in the past that Yahoo makes you log in every single day, whether you tell it to "remember me" or not. It's incredibly annoying and something I hope can be changed before we are forced to merge our accounts next year.

Yahoo specifically says:

"You can adjust the length of time before password prompting--up to 24 hours--by visiting Account Info and clicking on the Edit link for Member Information."

Up to 24 hours? That's just crazy. I don't want to have to enter my password every day!

Looks like it's inevitable by 2006 though...I would suggest waiting until the bugs gets worked out though :S

Anyway, what's the point of "Remember my ID on this computer" if it can't remember my ID on this computer even if I walk away for only five minutes?

This happens even if I don't exit my browser, by the way.

Welcome to Yahoo. My worry is, Yahoo has not fixed this (not remembering login, requiring repeated logins, not allowing login) in the years it has had complaints about it; will the Flickr staff be able to convince them that our complaints count?

We all hope so. In the meantime, I will wait until the very last minute to merge.

I've having to login every time too. It's bad enough having to login every 24 hours when my machine is not available to anybody else, but every time I restart the browser too is too much.

Hmm, 3e, do you have any special cookie policies going on that you're aware of. Cookie washers, strict privacy policies or what not?

people the reason you need to "password" so much because of security, Yahoo improved their a long time ago, But Flickr is not very secure! But I AM Sorry I merged, Any Idea how it can be disabled?
Posted 82 months ago. ( permalink )

view photos

soulspin  Pro User  says:

This is not a security issue. I don't mind being asked periodically for my password for Yahoo...that's one thing... this is a matter of the password not being stored at all...not even 24 hours if I close the browser window.

Can I infer from the silence on this topic that this bug is no longer a bug? Can someone with a merged account chime in real quick and let me know that this stuff works these days?
