About The Yosemite Bear Project
WHAT
The Yosemite Bear Project is a collaborative attempt to map and photograph the bears of Yosemite National Park using flickr, individual contributors and geotagging.
Have you seen a bear in Yosemite and captured a good enough photo that it might be possible to identify that bear later as an individual?
HOW
Post your picture to the group with:
1. the date in the comments/details
2. the most accurate geotag that you can.
WHY
While hiking in Hetch Hetchy a couple of weeks ago me and the camera found a particularly good looking black bear guy checking us out from a rock. It occurred to me after I took a photo and geo-tagged it that there is the potential that flickr could become a very useful tool for building a collaborative record of the flora and fauna in the natural environment. The Yosemite Bear Project is a test of whether we as individual photographers can give something else back to the community and the natural world that provides us as pros and amateurs with the inspiration to keep on making photos.
It's my hope that this group will serve as a useful research tool to better study and understand who the bears are. where the live and what they are up to.
Bears seen in adjoining National Parks, Forests and Wilderness areas would also be welcome!
Thanks!
