About Yorkdale Shopping Centre
"Yorkdale Shopping Centre opened its doors and the old Toronto Telegram marveled: "The 100 stores and shops of Yorkdale are all air-conditioned and if the cooling systems... were making ice cubes, they could produce a single stack 55 miles high every hour on the hour...", "...Just marvelous, say the ladies after a Tely tour!"
This fabulous mall, located in midtown Toronto, seems to be constantly undergoing renovations and additions. Each new generation is introduced to a new version of Yorkdale, but how can we forget the past? Does anyone remember the giant dimly-lit atrium outside Simpsons (now the Bay), or the cloverleaf-style restaurant outside the old Eaton's (right near the existing Crate&Barrel)? How about the first- and second-generation movie theatres that used to exist?
Yorkdale has a lot of living "modernist" history if you look closely enough. Take a look at the mosaic brick structure where Eaton's used to be, and the outside of the Bay. These are all portions of the original 1964 structure!
This group is for any photos of Yorkdale, past or present, that anyone may have. I don't care about details--just post any photos you might have that were taken IN or OF Yorkdale Mall. Try and avoid photos of "friends at the Apple Store," please ;)
