About Yellowknife: The Diamond Capital of North America
Yellowknife is the capital city of Canada's Northwest Territories. It is located on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, approximately 400 km. (250 miles) south of the Arctic Circle. Yellowknife was named after the local Yellowknives Dene First Nation, who made tools from regional copper deposits.
Yellowknife started out as a gold mining community and rapidly expanded and is now known for it's diamonds, aurora tourism and the History Channel’s; "Ice Road Truckers".
