Thanks Robert and thanks Rhonda for doing these tables for us addicts. It's good to see the actual totals now - do you have a new tool?

Laura thank you and welcome to the top 10. Having seen your photos I am going to have to up my game ;-)

Yes, and that is why they arre links to the photostream now, but I've always had the actual numbers, I just edited them out. I thought it might cause aggravation. Just as happened in the pre*Game Birthday League table when I simply forgot in the all the party excitement :-(

The numbers are dependent on Flickr's search function which they acknowledge is currently flaky, and they are working on it. So one or two wins might be missed out. Plus some people deliberately remove them selves from searches and the Flickr API and they will never be included in the Top 10

"Plus some people deliberately remove them selves from searches and the Flickr API and they will never be included in the Top 10 "

Yup - I've had to do that following an almighty row at work, which nearly led to me leaving Flickr altogether! I plan to reset my privacy settings once I've changed jobs later this year, so (hopefully), I'll be back....
Manx photos 8 years ago
....Oh & I forgot to say (above) what I was going to say in the first place, which is that I nearly choked when I saw one of the titles of the latest challenges - "Less than 25 views".

I have lots of pics on Flickr as I use it as backup storage in case of fire or my hardware conking out etc, but get very few views on any of them. Fine by me as entering the comps for a bit of fun and a change from the day job (schoolteacher) is the only other thing I do with Flickr, so the idea of more than 25 people actually bothering to click through to the photo page is hilarious.

I've about a hundred images with several views due to trolls who set up scrips to post inane comments on thousands of images to try to get their own stuff viewed and into Explore, but most of those images are the ordinary rubbish stuff that I wouldn't use in a comp anyway.

So, thanks for giving me a huge big chuckle on Sunday morning. I'm going to be giggling to myself all day as I plan my lessons for next week.
Donna JW 8 years ago
Your comment in turn has had me chuckling as it immediately brought to mind one Flickr member I know whose photos are viewed by thousands. Yes, seriously!

This is the first one I grabbed to prove my point: www.flickr.com/photos/birdyboo/132439257/in/set-720575941... It has had 50,986 views and has had 246 comments. Isn't that just incredible? I am sure there are other members with the similar figures.

Alice is an American and I met her years ago (back in 2004) on a completely different website. She takes terrific photos and also happens to be a really delightful woman. The sort of person you'd like to have living next door to you :)

"I know a headmaster, a department head and 2 other teachers all with (very) active Flickr accounts. How on earth could Flickr cause such a row? "

Over the years I've taken loads of photos at work which I've been using in school either to show the class what I want them to do, or in other educational ways. In the old days I used to have to dig out prints or CDs with the appropriate image(s) on every time I wanted to use them in class, but since I joined Flickr I'd scanned the prints and uploaded them and the other digitised files so that I could easily access them at work. It took ages to tag them all but if I wanted a shot of, for example, a papier mache volcano, made by a 7 year old, I could easily access one.
They were ALL set to "private", but somehow one of our parents came across one or maybe more of these images, and reported me to out IT Dept. It got VERY nasty - and I was off sick with the Norovirus at the time, which didn't help, but I had to delete several thousand images, most of which are irreplaceable as nothing I took at school is allowed to be posted on Flickr or any other similar site!
This is despite having signed permission from parents etc and the images being set to private.
Not a pleasant experience and I'm quite glad I'm leaving soon.
Am gutted to lose several years' worth of useful images though.

Manx photos I'm also a teacher and when I first started on flickr I was using it very much as a classroom tool as you did. I found it amazingly handy and very effective. About three years ago my district blocked flickr on all school computers, calling it a "social networking site." Ticked me right off and I asked repeatedly to have it unblocked, but no luck, so I have given up. I still pout about it now and then! They also changed our computers from macs to windows, so I lost iphoto (which is where all of my photos are stored). Years of gathering photos for particular lessons are all gone to waste.

50990? (and I clicked, too, so it must be 50991). That's unbelievable! My most viewed is only 1334. How do you get 50,000 people to look at your photo?

Donna JW 8 years ago
LOL oh Rhonda!! It certainly wasn't that amount the last time I looked at that particular photo. I think it was about 15,000 and I thought then that I was seeing things! However, at that time I checked out a few more of Alice's photos and found that many of them have huge viewing numbers.

The views for my entire collection is less than 33,000!
admin
IrenicRhonda Posted 8 years ago. Edited by IrenicRhonda (admin) 8 years ago
My most viewed photo has 3089 view, that's 3 times more than the next one and ten fold for the majority of my photos

I personally like it. It's a snow scape that is in full colour but looks B+W it was such a grey day. But it has bombed in all the challenge groups. I've checked the tags for "Angelina Jolie nude' or similar , but they are all very ordinary, Scotland, place name and date etc

And I have had 2 photos chosen by the Magic Donkey to appear in Explore. And they are both way down my list of views, favs and 'interestingness'. And even by my standard they are not that good. The Panda must have fed the Donkey his bamboo that day and given him indigestion

admin
IrenicRhonda 8 years ago
:-) 273 notes. If you can wait until they are completely loaded, note how the little squares for the notes make a heart.

10,004 favs

But it's self fulfilling. In FlickrCentral, every month or so someone ask which is the most fav'd and/or viewed and/or most notes.

This get posted, and another thousand or so view it, and fav it, or add a Note
Donna JW 8 years ago
Rhonda that is amazing but what you say about self fulfilling is very logical.

My most viewed, most fav'd and most commented on is for the same shot with a mere 1,223 views.

Whoops..... !!!

All the rest come nowhere near with the closest being less than half that amount. Whilst checking these figures I was amused to note that there have been 95 views on a photo of me....?!!! Why? LOL It does seem very odd - perhaps I have a stalker who logs in to view my photo every so often!!
Donna JW Posted 8 years ago. Edited by Donna JW (member) 8 years ago
If you've a few minutes to spare and feel like a laugh you can always check out your own statistics [found under Profile under where it says "Your photo stream" if you don't know]. It can be quite an eye opener, lol.

Why for instance does a photo I took of my wellington clad left foot warrant 422 views? Are there people with wellington fetishes? I entitled it "My Left Foot".

My Left Foot

Hardly what one would call an exciting photo or even a particularly good one, lol. We did try putting odd titles in the tags to see if that attracted viewers. Things like rubber and leather!! LOL
Donna JW 8 years ago
Oh sorry, I made a mistake in the comment before last for this appears to be my most viewed picture with 2,594 views!! However, it has only 8 comments and 9 faves which is why it is nowhere near the top of the list. It gets looked at very regularly - now that Flickr has such things showing on your home page it's easy to see at a glance which photos have been viewed.

This one is "Girl Bikers in Leathers (for Danny)" It was a joke because he always said he liked a woman in thigh length leather boots ;)

one thing that can surely boost your views if a photo of yours is "shared" in facebook or other social networking sites. a flickr and facebook friend shared the link of one of my photos in FB by the next day i saw from flickr stats that said photo had been viewed 200+ times in one day alone! no comments whatsoever though... sad! =)

145 views, 7 fav, 11 com.

Twitter is also a source for views. Someone there tracks all photos on Flickr tagged with "ijburg" (new part of Amsterdam). When I tag a photo with that I get some views.

If someone is viewing through an app on a phone, iPad etc, then there is no Referrer. So as these devices spread expect more and more Unknown Referrers.

Gosh Ken that is a lot but you do have super photos so I am not surprised. What do you mean by countless web sites all illegal?

I bet you wish you had 50 pence per view - that would pay for another good holiday :)) Or you could employ the services of a housekeeper so you could spend more time at your keyboard instead of vacuuming, dusting, cooking and ironing, lol.

Quick question:
Do the medals from other comps that are a requirement for entry into Game comps, have to be winners' medals or can second-place medalled images be used?
Just thought I'd check as I've a few images that have been awarded seconds (eg in "You Rock") and wasn't sure if I can use them here or not.
Thanks.

BTW My most viewed image is this one:

I visited Dubrovnik in the 70s on a School Cruise (anyone else remember them) when Yugoslavia was still very much a Communist state.

"What do you mean by countless web sites all illegal? "

I think Ken means that his images get "borrowed" for use on websites without people asking first. Very annoying but the only way to prevent it is to not upload any images....
GGgrrrrr.......

"instead of vacuuming, dusting, cooking and ironing, lol. "
What's that, then?....

I first went to Split and Dubrovnic, in 1959, every where was very poor, but the Slivovic Brandy was just as good then. My pic shows Dubrovnik with shiny new roofs, most of it was destroyed by shelling in the Serbo-Bosnia war of a few years ago.

This was an old roof waiting to be repaired,
