About Yelp
A group for users of Yelp and other local review centered social networks, no matter where they might live. Yes, you might have to ask to be let in, sometimes - don't sweat that. I'm not looking for excuses to reject your application, I'm just making an effort to keep the trolls out. The discussion section should be fairly freewheeling - up to a point. (see rules) You can talk about experiences you've had while in the places you've reviewed, and if you go off on a tangent, that's fine. I'm not going to try to steer it back to being "on topic" - as long as some legitimate connection can be found to what you're doing (or did) on Yelp. You usually have to be a current user of Yelp (or one of its competitors) for your application to be approved. I might make an exception in the case of somebody who was thrown off the site without adequate justification. We are here to talk about the positive aspects of the Yelp experience, but we're here to talk about the negative ones as well, in a civil and reasonable manner, and if your response to that last comment about adequate justification was to say something like "who defines adequate" or "it's their site, so they're entitled to do whatever they want with it" - please go somewhere else. "Everybody is entitled to be treated fairly" is dogma on this group; my patience with neocons and corporatists ran out about the same time my patience with Political Correctness did. Once you've joined this group, you're generally welcome to stay, even if you leave Yelp or are thrown off of Yelp (or, yes, one of its competitors). The photos you submit to the pool should be of the places you review there (ideally, with links back to your review) or of Yelp events. If you're no longer with Yelp or wherever it was that you were, then just post pictures of something you've reviewed elsewhere, with links to your reviews elsewhere. If you aren't reviewing anything elsewhere - talk to me. We'll see what we can do. Have fun. If you'd like to know why I made some decision or another the way I did, which you probably won't, I do have a moderation journal set up for that purpose, should it ever be needed. I tend to moderate with a very light hand, so it probably won't be. You can follow this group on Twitter, posts in the discussion section and uploads to the pool being automatically tweeted. I hope. Note: While flamewars are an accepted part of life on Yelp, they are not accepted on this group. Personal disputes are to be taken elsewhere, to this fight group, which I've set up for that purpose. I can't make people like each other, and I'm not going to try to do so, but at least I can attempt to keep their screaming from bothering everybody else. Enter that group at your own risk.
