In my GSN I have an adapter and an Energizer A544 alkaline. So far it have made 14 rolls of film. I don`t know how much you have shot in during those 6 weeks? But if I can get 15 rolls+ out of a battery, I am satisfied. Film and processing is a much higher cost :)
Or just get som 400 ASA film and shoot sunny16, that works perfect with the Electros after som experimenting

(for those who don`t know and read this, the Electro 35s will have a fixed shutterspeed of 1/500 without as battery, so then you have to elaborate with apertures and filmspeed)

I use the MAXELL ALKALINE BATTERY 4LR44 (A544) 6v on my GTN. I am not a professional photographer, so I anticipate a longer period than that of Volda. One more thing, if you dont have an adapter like me, an old spring connector from a small flashlight
will fill the gap.

I think you have a short. I've had my PX28 battery in my GS for about 1.5 years in which time I've shot abotu 50 rolls of film. It seems to still be fine too. I have done a lot of long shutter night stuff.
My GSN and G both have working mercury batteries still, so I am using them until they wear out.

Ah, probably my bodge shorted the battery. I made a new bodge with a better spring and am using a piece of card to help prevent shorts.

A CR 123 (3.0V) + 2 LR44W (1.55)
Connect in series with adhesive paper
Cost only ~US$3/ cell
can last for 7-8 rolls
try it!!

Try a Duracell 28L. It's a Lithium replacement for the 4LR44 and fits in the same adapter. Costs about $7 and mine has been in the camera for at least 2 years and a lot of use. Highly recommended.

I rolled up 4 LR44 and put a small spring at the to close the gap. Works like a charm - exposures usually come out about a half stop to heavy but that is just what I want anyway most of the time.

I managed to find a place in the UK that sells proper batteries for the Yashica Electro, It's £9 per batt, discount for multi buy.

You want me to get you some batteries luke? I'm sure I could arrange it
Upon looking closer at the batteries I've got, they are actually 4 x A640 batteries

But they fit perfectly, unlike the 4xLR44 botch-up.

I've been using 4LR44 too and been having problems where the battery would go flat pretty quick. However, I've just read through these posts and found nothing that would help so I had a look in the battery compartment and noticed (cos I hadn't really looked before) that the screw cover makes contact with the inner ring at the end of the compartment. I took the cover and slighty and carefully bent the contacts on the cover. I put the 'flat' battery back in and it seems to have burst back into life. Cool.

I am also using an adapter w/6v battery. Haven't run enough film through yet to run down a battery. I read something somewhere (maybe the Yashica Guy or Mark Hama website) saying not to to leave the shutter cocked as it will drain the battery. So I have been making sure when I am done shooting that I have NOT advanced the film to the next frame.

guys, I hate to say but that makes Electro a birtday cam only.
With Electro 35 MC (which is different from large bodied) I advance right after shot and cell is fine, but can't say for G35/GS/GSN. Well, one GSN I gave away drained battery though I believe that were because circuit had leak. Too bad if this is normal behavior.

I use a TR164A Alkaline 6 volt battery in my GT. I remove the battery after every shooting session, so I don't have the battery drainage problem.
It might help if you don't advance the film after every shot. I've heard that this drains the battery faster.
