I'm a new X owner and I wonder if there are any special tips for locking this up at the store or the movies. I am aware that with only a couple of tools an enterprising thief could make off with the rear half of my new long-bike. Besides using a long cable with my U-lock, what other tips are out there to keep bits and pieces from walking away, especially the snap-deck?

I just lock mine to something solid using an ABUS armoured cable lock.
I thread the lock through the front wheel and frame then around a lightpole/bikehoop/fencepost/large tree.
I also make sure it is somewhere very visible, like in front of a cafe or restaurant where a potential thief cannot be sure if I am nearby watching it.
Possibly though, bike theft is not as big a problem here. I've only had 2 stolen in 17 years and never the X.

hey dont use a cable lock, they're way to easy to cut. armored cable locks are great, however. just make sure yours is a non cyclindrical key.

this is how im protecting my Xtra

1. ulock for the front wheel to frame
2. hardened steel quad faced chain with american padlock thru the two frames and rear wheel
3. Pitlock for the skewers and seat post (eliminates the need to use locks for wheels)
4. paint and stickered bike to look ugly
5. paint components rust color
6. superglue bbs into allen bolts
7. use zipties and pipe clamps to secure stuff

Buy a set of Pinhead Locking Skewers. You will be able to lock both wheels, your seatpost and headset to the frame of your bike. They do not affect riding your bike in any way. You will not be able to remove these parts without the special key.

Use a U-Lock or Kryptonite chain to secure your bike to a rack, though.

I was worried about this when I first got my X, but haven't given it a second thought in years.

Maybe I'll be subject to a rude awakening sometime, but I just don't see it happening. Maybe you could try gluing a ball bearing in the hex holes on the bolts.

Xtracycles are pretty conspicuous both on the street and for resale online. It'd be a lot easier to track it down after a sale than some random wheel or whatever.

My high alert method is ulock on front wheel and frame to rack, then cable thru back wheel. I suppose I could pass the cable around the freerad but instead I loop it up and hook the seat in, too.

Good luck!
