Nothing says sterile, uncreative, bland, suburban life more than a lawn. Sure, it's great to give the kids a place to play, but most lawns today are covered in so much harmful pesticide and fertilizer you can't even put the family pets out to poop on it. Most kids would probably prefer to play in a space where they can climb trees and rocks and things anyway. A lawn could be so much more than a blah strip of grass baking in the sun.
Let's use this space to post pics of both boring lawns, AND homes that have begun to Xeriscape. Any photos of creative ways to make wildlife habitat in an otherwise boring, sterile space, would be good. Also photos of wildlife adapting to urban spaces, interesting plants and animals found in urban spaces.
If you find photos you'd like to invite to the group please let people know about us by pasting this link with a friendly message, maybe something like the one below. This is still a private group that requires an invite to post, but I'll be happy to add more members to the group as you all find them.
"Hi I think these photos would look great in the I Hate Lawns group!"
