About West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) 1974 -1986

The ‘West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive’ (WYPTE) was born on 1st April 1974, under the revised Transport Act of 1972 and the reorganisation of local government in 1974. The newly created WYPTE combined the former municipal bus operations of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, and Calderdale (formerly Halifax and Todmorden), as well as local rail services in the County. In doing so, the PTE inherited 1500 vehicles, 6000 staff as well as garages and bus stations.

After 12 years of passenger transport integration and general service improvements (that have never been matched), WYPTE's ownership of bus and train operations in the County ended abruptly on 26th October 1986, under the 1985 Transport Act, which de-regulated stage carriage bus services in mainline Britain.

To celebrate those 12 years of achievement, the group would like to see your pictures of WYPTE from 1st April 1974 up until 26th October 1986.

Relevant pictures of buses, garages, etc. that were taken after 1986, but are connected with West Yorkshire PTE during this period may also be considered.
