N. C.(NEWELL CONVERS) WYETH (1882-1945) is the patriarch of four generations of artists. He was a student of Howard Pyle the "father" of American illustration. Wyeth painted landscapes, still lifes and murals. Wyeth is best known as an illustrator and his images appear in children's classics, tales of adventure, historic and patriotic poems and magazine stories. He and his wife Carolyn Bockius lived in Chadds Ford Pennsylvania and raised their family on 18 acres near the historic Brandywine battlefield. Much of his landscapes are of the Brandywine country.

N. C. WYETH’s five children and their families - Artist’s names CAPTIALIZED:

1- HENRIETTE WYETH HURD (1907-1997) was N. C. Wyeth's first child. She and her husband PETER HURD (1904-1984) were both artists and to parents to artists MICHAEL HURD (1946-) and (ANN) CAROL HURD (1935-). Ann is married to artist PETER W. ROGERS (1933-). (Ann) Carol Hurd has two sons who are fourth generation painters in the family -- PETER GREGORIO DE LA FUENTE (1959- ) and DAVID CHRISTIAN ROGERS (1964- ).

2- CAROLYN WYETH (1909-1994), the second child of N. C. Wyeth, was a landscape artist.

3- Nathaniel Convers Wyeth (1911-1990), third child of N.C. Wyeth, was a chemist and inventor. He and his wife Caroline Pyle (niece of illustrator Howard Pyle) had five sons, of whom ANDREW NATHANIEL (A. N.) WYETH (1948- ) is a nature watercolorist and architectural artist.

4- ANN WYETH McCOY (1915-2005) N. C. Wyeth’s fourth child was a musician, composer and painter. She married one of her father’s student’s, artist JOHN W. McCOY (1910-1989). They had two daughters who are also artists: ANN BRELSFORD McCOY (1940-) and (MAUDE) ROBBINS McCOY (1944- )

5 - ANDREW WYETH (1917-2009), N.C. Wyeth youngest child, is the best known artist in the family. He has been internationally recognized as America’s foremost realist, and is the father of highly regarded realist painter JAMIE WYETH (1946- ).
