About WTAMU ART

Visual art at West Texas A&M University.

The Art Program at WT offers majors a variety of exciting degrees in the visual arts, including specializations in: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Glass, Sculpture, Ceramics, Graphic Design, and Art History. Our students can take advantage of a number of unique opportunities, such as learning to blow glass in a state-of-the-art glass studio or learning to print large-scale lithographs on the precision Mailänder press at Vermillion Editions Limited. Our computer lab for graphic design boasts 27 new large-screen IMacs with the most up-to-date design software. Our students’ artwork appears in art galleries on WT campus, at Sunset Center in Amarillo, and, once every year, is showcased at the Amarillo Museum of Art. Select students have recently benefited from travel scholarships to visit art collections in New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Our program offers a wide range of classes, from design-oriented studio classes, to history and theory courses, to courses that get outside the classroom on scheduled field trips that take a “sneak peak” into the museum vaults and private homes of art collectors in the Panhandle.
