About Wrestling With God

I have had a series of Yahoo! groups entitled"Christianity in Pictures" [five groups] and "Wrestling With God" [two groups]. Ever since Yahoo! reorganized, the group activitly fell apart, and, before it did, the groups were hijacked by fundamentalist Christians. I am Christian, but not fundamentalist.

I want a place wherein persons can post pictures and have discussions regarding faith without regarding "Faith" - a place wherein we can respect each others traditions and talk to each other without a hidden agenda - such as "covert conversion."

Here is the description I used on Yahoo! for the "Wrestling with God" groups:

"Then a man came and wrestled with [Jacob] until just before daybreak ... Jacob said 'I have seen God face-to-face, and I am still alive.'" [Gen 24b, 30a, Good News Bible]

Each individual must decide how she or he wrestles [or does not wrestle] with God. The group moderator, John Hanscom, does it as a believer in God, using the Christian approach, and the discipline of an active Episcopalian, but honors those who do not believe in God, approach God in other ways, or uses other disciplines.

It is hoped this group can be a way of approaching both the idea and reality of God, through discussion, ideas, picture, resources found useful, and humor. All writers are welcome. I will post my ideas and resources, but the group will be open to all with unmoderated postings. All the moderator asks is each person treats all others as she or he would like to be treated, and not treat others in a manner she or he would not like to be treated.

The picture is a bullet ridden Madonna in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
