I am Chamorro living in the US, and recently visited my mother's family for a long visit. My mom is from Saipan, while my father is from Guam. We are of Chamorro lineage -- particularly I am a mix of native Chamorro, Spanish, German, Filipino, Chinese and Polynesian cultures. Unfortunately there is no one of pure Chamorro blood since the Spanish colonizers killed off most of the men.

Although Saipan is tiny with a wide range of cultures, most folks get along and the island adapts to environmental and economic change as best it can.

Here's a pic from my visit, along with a link to my Saipan set.

Actually, Micro Beach is very different from what I remember in the 80's. It used to be primarily a sand bar, shallow and pristine. Since the many typhoons, it's changed the beach and there are more algae activity than before. Although it's still the most popular public beach.

I would also suggest checking out the beach areas in Chalan Kanoa, near the main church, and swimming in the deeper areas along Beach Road.
