I asked this woman for a quick snapshot and she obliged. The photo really does not do her justice. She was very attractive.

Indeed. There are plenty of nice hiking spots over there. Here we are in the Valley of Desolation, on the way back from the Boiling Lake:

The day after Christmas we took our first scuba dive. The dive shop was just at the bottom of the the mountain where we were staying, a hair raising ride straight down the mountain with lots of switch backs and blind curves and driving on the left... yeaow! Derek Perryman is the owner of Dive Dominica and he runs a really great operation. Mary and I have been diving for 20 years and this trip we saw something we have been looking for for 20 years... a frogfish! Not just one, we actually saw three. The first looked something like this. I'm not sure exactly, they are very difficult to see because they are so well camoflaged. It was hiding inside a tube sponge and looked like a piece of flotsam that had just settled into the opening of the sponge. But as I looked I saw it's eye. That's the dead giveaway. Unfortunately I don't have an underwater camera so I couldn't get a picture.

I was so determined to get a picture of this place (it was painted black inside and out) that when they all got distracted I took this picture. As near as I can figure (I couldn't see in) it sold homeade food and alcohol. It was doing a brisk business every time I went by.

Things were hopping on Saturday the 23rd as everyone did their last minute Christmas shopping and food shopping. The 24th was a Sunday and everything closes down here on Sunday. No Wal-Mart (Yeah!).

A small store in Roseau that sold beer. Kubuli seems to be the dominant brand, we saw it advertised everywhere.

We had come to Dominica to dive the coral reefs and see the underwater life as well as the life of the rain forests, so we decided to wait until after Christmas to dive. The day after we arrived was 2 days before Christmas so we needed to stock up on food for the week before everything shut down for Christmas. They served meals at Exotica Cottages, but since we had our own kitchen we elected to do a lot of our own cooking.

With respect to the description of Dominica (1st message of the thread):
French is not a language of Dominica despite its French neighbours and the French presence in the past centuries.
The languages are English and Creole, a French-based creole to be more precise. This makes that some people might understand French and that if you understand some French, you might grasp some bits of their Creole.

The most perfect beach and we had it all to ourselves on several occasions. I do hope this beach and indeed the whole Island does not get spoilt

This is a natural hot tub in the Valley of Desolation. The water has a temperature of about 40 degree Celsius. Just fine :-)
