After viewing hundreds and hundreds of photos (with only the scarcest break where another member posted one or two) from one group member, I am wondering if a daily limit on uploading would be appropriate.
I invited several dozen Flickr contacts from around the world to join, but I'm concerned that if they look at the group's most recent photos, they might get discouraged from joining.
(I see some of my contacts have joined, and it doesn't matter if it was the result of my invitation or one from someone else. I think this is an interesting group with great potential.)

Having been the admin of two groups thus far...a posting limit is a good thing. If you set a posting limit then people think about the photos they are submitting. In my group The Speakeasy there is a posting limit of 1 per day. It was unlimited, but after setting a limit the quality of photos going into the pool went up. And in my group Nature, naturally there is a posting limit of 5 per day and that seems to be working. In both groups the que is turned on so that the admins get to decide which photos go into the pool and which ones do not. When you have a group that has unlimited posting people just dump whatever photos they have into it. A posting limit would be a great idea.

Maybe you guys should read more, and take more photos, and post more.
Pictures of anything and everything except for nudity and pornography. There are no posting limits, no commenting on other pictures required, all I am aiming to achieve with this group is to gain as many members as possible and as many pictures as possible so when you have your invite to the group I would like you to invite all of your contacts to the group as well. Lets see how big the group can grow.
I have 43,000 so far to post here. I have a couple of friends with about 40,000 each, and one guy I know has 160,000. I think "as many pictures as possible" is plain English for "dump em all".

Besides, it seems I can't dump more than about 4,000 a day (correctioion: can't seem to dump more than 4,000 in a batch) for some odd reason. But if all 1324 of the rest of you would do that, this group would have a huge pool in no time. As it is, 10 Million Photos has way more members, a way bigger pool, and much better games and discussions.
If this is going to be the attitude of the members who are already here, why should I invite my other 239 contacts?
Let me know admin. I'll quit and remove everything I've dumped if you say so.

Don't you hate it when people don't take the time to read group descriptions and rules. Everything Texas (The End is Near) Hillsurfer said is absolutely true.

i've got to say when i first looked at this groups pool (after being invited to join) I was turned off by the dumping/spamming by texas of the same boring subject (is it an ego thing?) its not impressive at all.Quality not quantity makes for a diverse and interesting pool.
i only joined so i could make a reply to this thread.......now i'm gonna quit. adios

Just added all of mine. Thanks for the invite Tex!
I've often been confused by groups that say they want to be the biggest but set a daily limit. They'll never become the biggest at that rate.

I certainly don't want to rain on anyone's parade and I never disparage anyone's photos. In my opinion, maybe a balance between quality and quantity should be considered.
I think Flickr should be a fun place, not without open discussion, but without hostility.
If I've seemed hostile, I apologize.

I guess that not every one knows that everyone is entitled to have an opinion. I'm not sorry for rubbing anyone the wrong way. No one is disputing the groups rules or descriptions in this thread. Perhaps some of you should pay attention to what you're reading. Simply having a suggestion about a way that members would feel could help make the group better for everyone can be helpful to the admins and mods. Becomming the 'biggest' group on Flickr isn't much considering you have a poolful of mediocre pictures.

What you're doing is meddling with someone else's group (like I am). I'm sure if the creator of this group wanted specific photos, they would have said so. Maybe, just maybe, he meant what he said in the first place, that he wanted a large group. Now I realize that it takes years to build a large group, and I also realize that not everyone would like to be a member of a group whose sole purpose is to be big. So if you don't like groups where anyone can post anything, you ought to join Not Your Group.

Oh, not many people here have anything other than mediocre pictures. If you want to see a pool full of great pictures, where anyone can change the rules as they please, you might consider joining Flickr Envy. Everyone there is an administrator, but there are some great photos there.

And another thing. Why would you think from what I posted that I don't think you have a right to your opinion? I never said that. It's just that my opinion is you don't have any say so in how someone else runs their group. I'm just going along with the desire of the originator of this group. You guys are the ones trying to tell him what to do with it.
You could all be having fun doing what this group is set up for you to do. Instead you're trying to make it into something else that it's not. Dump your pictures, start a fun discussion instead of whining. Play like your life was ending tomorrow...it may be.

99% of groups on flickr have a thread dedicated to suggestions from members. It's the members that are the life of a group and if you can't keep them happy then you have no group. Having suggestions from your members just shows that the members care about the group and admins responding to these shows the members that the admins care about the group. Seeing as how no admin or mod has had anything to say about this subject really speaks for how they care about this group. Like I said before..NO ONE IS DISPUTING THE RULES OF THE GROUP. It's just a suggestion. Also, try getting what you want to say out in one post at a time instead of cluttering the thread with multiple posts.

But you are suggesting something that obviously goes against the philosophy of the originator's intent for this group. That is just about as rude and obnoxious as it gets. You don't walk into someone else's house and tell them they need to replace their stone floor with pink carpet. What you're doing is insulting. You and your friend have insulted the originator of this group. You've insulted the photos in this group, and you've insulted the premise of this group, and now you've insulted the administrator of this group...and you still believe that's ok.
It's to the administrator's credit that he's allowed you to be so rude and insulting to him and his group and still leave this thread untouched out of his strong belief in freedom of speech.

I was invited to join this group. After reading this thread I am definately going to be a member.
The main reason is it looks like fun!! I like the no rules and post what you want idea. All I ask in my group is that you keep it clean and fun. It's the Benzie County group, very nice check it out.
I am all for selective beautiful artwork. However, no rules and have fun sounds good to me.
Thanks the admin(s), I'll be posting soon.

Texas...I don't know how to be any clearer other than IT'S JUST A SUGGESTION. You keep taking this as some personal attack on you when all it is a suggestion. Suggestions shouldn't be taken so seriously. I am tired of arguing a suggestion with you, I think you need to contemplate loosening up a little and not be so serious about everyting, I am choosing to leave this group, and I am choosing to end this conversation. The fact that there has been no administrative intervenion in this thread shows me that the Admins and mod's do not care about this group or about it's content.

@Texas-ya know there's a time for serious and a time for fun. maybe the more serious should go to fredmiranda.com to accomodate their photographic needs. i like your group and will continue to "dump" on it~~in it~~~whatever LOL

Yeah, I think I did kinda hijack this group, didn't I? It's not mine by any means. I tend to be obnoxious at times, and this looks like a good place to be obnoxious. I think it had kinda died, and I think brooke's right that the admins and/or mods aren't even paying attention.

Head over to The Speakeasy and you'll see that I'm not always obnoxious and rude.

Hi everyone and welcome to my group. Thanks to all who have contributed and made the group grow. I set up the group with no limits to postings and hardly any rules. I wanted to see how fast a group could grow. I am thrilled by how big the group already is in such a short time, so keep posting those pictures and keep inviting your contacts. The group undoubtadly will not appeal to everyone which is fine, but the main point is to have fun in here. All of my other groups have posting limits set, this one does not and I created the group with that in mind.
Texas: I have been away from the computer for the christmas break and unable to get access to the internet, but please don't think I have not been paying attention because I am now back and sorting things out. Apologies to all for not commenting earlier.
Have a great new year to all and thanks for commenting, your points are noted.
