From June 19 - 23 Vancouver will host an exciting international event, the United Nations World Urban Forum III. For five days, Vancouver will host some 10,000 world leaders, dignitaries, NGOs, youth and other visitors from around the world, including Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Additionally, there will be many events with music, food and culture from around the world. The meeting will likely be Vancouver's largest event prior to the 2010 Olympic Games.
From the WUF website:
"The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies and policies. It is projected that in the next fifty years, two-thirds of humanity will be living in towns and cities. A major challenge is to minimize burgeoning poverty in cities, improve the urban poor's access to basic facilities such as shelter, clean water and sanitation and achieve environment-friendly, sustainable urban growth and development."
I will be attending all five days, but it would be a great to meet other photographers and interested citizens from the GVRD. If you would like to attend WUF III, the final day to register is June 9, only several days from now. Register Now!
