17 Aug 08 - Hello
This week I am going to have a poll with my young students to decide where in the world 'Tora the Daruma' will go first.
Once the results are in I will post Tora to the lucky first photographer.
I will post the ongoing results of the poll until Saturday night Japan time when the final result will be known.
I will also take photos with the students taking part in this project and post them here.

About World Daruma

Introduction
The Daruma Travels began on Photographica.org where a Japanese Daruma left Japan and travelled to the U.S.A., Germany, England, and New Zealand. On the way avid photographers took photos of the Daruma enjoying the world, posting the images on the website.

Soon another Daruma will leave Japan and this time the hope is that it can travel to more locations in more countries. It's progress will be followed by elementary school students here in Japan who will be encouraged to interact with the photographers involved to help them understand the world of English.

How it works
Apon leaving Japan, the Daruma will head for it's as yet unknown first world stop and into one of the trusted and kind members's home. The skilled photographer will then take photos of the Daruma seeing the sights of the beautiful country it is in.
How long the Daruma stays is up to the generous member or the Daruma, be it a few days or weeks.
Then, after it's happy stay the member will post the Daruma to another member. The path the Daruma takes will be decided by children here in Japan who will communicate by email with members.
And so it will continue until all members have enjoyed the company of the Travelling Daruma.

The Kids
This main idea of this exercise is to help my students here in Japan understand the importance of the English language; to show them that it is truly the international language.
The kids will be writing messages to the photographers asking them simple questions and hopefully making new friends with other kids in the world.
If you have elementary age children or know some kids that would be interested in communicating with Japanese children please let me know.

The Members
Daruma are very shy therefore will only travel to see people they trust.
However at the moment there are only a handful of members in only a few countries to visit.
If existing members have friends or family in other countries please add them to the group. All members of this group are admins so are able to add new members.
Send the Daruma to people that you know will take care of it and have the photographic skills to properly capture the adventure.

Cheers

Jason
