About The World in White

The World in White flickr group is a photographic visual response to the exhibition Sleepless by Vered Lahav on display at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from the 10 October 2009 – 23 January 2010. See www.wolverhamptonart.org.uk/wolves/exhibitions/004067.html for more information.

We are asking you to submit your photographs in response to Vered Lahav’s work, specifically focussing on her photographs which use isolated white objects central to the composition on a white background – photographs of “white on white” – to build a palette of white photographs. Please tag your photos with the words "wolves world in white".

Lahav's work has been described as involving "a poetic collage of image fragments" (Robert Clarke, 2006). As well as a physical collage of different materials, often creating exhibitions that are essentially mixed media installations in their entirety, the more abstract use of the term "collage" can be applied to Lahav's conceptual approach to her artistic practice. A combination of influences, visual, ideological, physical, emotional, spiritual, cerebral, come together to form a collage, a backdrop from which the artwork emerges.

This group has been started with one example of Lahav’s work Anatomy of Time I (2009), alongside 25 images of artworks and objects from within the collection here at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

Here are some words to help get you started…nostalgia, snow, clean, fresh, absolute, blank canvas, bleach, white on white, muted, pure, purity, clinical, angelic, stark , isolated, ghostly…
