Our group now has 54 members and more photos than locos in the yard.

Lets try and make a 1000 photos of Barry scrapyard.

About Barry (Woodhams) Railway Scrapyard, UK, 1962-1990

This group is a photographic record of the over 200 steam and the two diesel locomotives that were sent to the Barry railway scrapyard in South Wales in the 1960s. The yard existed around various sites in Barry Docks in South Wales from 1962 - 1990. 213 of these Barry steam locomotives have been purchased for restoration. Of these, over 120 have been restored to working order. Over 50% of the standard gauge steam locomotives seen today on the UK's many heritage railways exist via Barry scrapyard. A select few of the Barry engines have made it back onto the UKs mainlines running at the head of steam specials at 70MPH.

This group contains photographs of the locos in Barry scrapyard. Do not post images of restored Barry locomotives on preserved or mainlines. Photos of restored Barry engines can be posted on the comapnion group :

The aim of this FLICKR group is to try and get a photograph of every loco in the scrapyard including those that were cut up. Duplicate photographs of locos showing their decline through time are also encouraged.

This is photographic tribute to the many hundreds of dedicated preservationists who have restored the Barry wrecks.
