A big thanks to the 1000 photographers who participated in the Street Shots contest and to the 30 plus runner ups;
another big thank you to all the group members and participants who sent their regards and well wishes;
a tremendous thank you to Luc Sante for choosing my set of images as well as those of the runner ups to be featured in the gallery at the venerable Camera Club of New York;
and a final heartfelt thanks goes to all the great folks at WNYC--especially Benjamen, Andrea. David and Brian for pulling some of our street photography from flickr into the public eye--a truly life altering experience.
My hope is that many more will be motivated and inspired to do even better than we have.

Sincere best wishes to Joe for being picked as the winner. After watching the wonderful video made by WNYC, it was thought-provoking to consider how one gets the shots vs the product itself. As a Manhattan resident and worker, I often see people with cameras up to their faces, and in advance, due to privacy issues or a bad hair day, I often shield my face by brushing back my hair, etc. I don't want to hurt their feelings, but sometimes even though I am no star, I don't want my mug on some tourists blog...on the otherhand, as a photographer, I often take pictures of other people in the street...if they see me with my camera raised to my face, they are put on notice and can turn and avoid it if they so choose...but without that non-verbal cue, how would they know I was even taking a photo? I believe it is deceitful to the public on a city sidewalk to pretend to NOT take a photo just to catch a person off-guard. By shooting secretively from the hip, I believe it increases the invasion of privacy people might feel, and not give them a choice in how or where their image is later viewed. As a strong proponent of civil liberties as well as privacy as well as artist rights on public sidewalks/streets, I don't believe we photographers need to carry around blank disclosures for people to sign before we shoot. But there are certain ethical considerations photographers should think about and put themselves in the involuntary subject's shoes...and there IS a direct correlation between how a shot is taken and how a photograph looks...even if only the photographer knew he shot it using a camera hidden in a pen that the subject had no idea they were being photographed...the fact remains on the photographer's conscience.
www.pictureny.org is a great movement, but remember, courtesy and civil rights go both ways

Congratulations, Joe.
I hate to be picky, but I wish there were a way to see all the selected pics online. Am I missing something? They don't seem to be on the Camera Club site. It might be nice if there were a set or something with the selected pics.

Hi HobsonNY -- we will eventually be posting our selected pics, but we do want you all to go to the show at the Camera Club of New York in the meantime. Keep checking the group and Street Shots for more information.
