I also thank you for the invitation, Tiger Empress. Steve was so passionate about animals.
A friend of mine forwarded this poem to me from Australia... I asked Somesai to post this on the Pandas Unlimited board, which she was kind enough to do. Thought I'd post it here..
~ In Memory of our Mate ~
Crikey, have you heard the news
that hit the world today
About how an Aussie icon
became the one who got away.
Swimming off a Queensland reef
just doing what he loved
Being at one with nature when
struck by a Sting Ray's barb.
A gentle soul who wrestled crocs
and lived life passionately,
Australia's own ambassador
though unofficially.
He brought tourism to our shores
and helped make us aware
That quarantine matters to us all
and of wildlife everywhere.
A real fair dinkum Aussie bloke
what you saw was what you got,
An enthusiasm so infectious
that he never knew when to stop.
He came, he saw and conquered all
a man larger than life
Living each day as his last
till the moment that he died.
He was the Crocodile Hunter and
Steve Irwin was his name,
A heart of gold that touched the world
that we'll never be the same -
Crikey, what a giant loss
such a tragic twist of fate,
And while the world now mourns his loss
Australia's lost a mate.

I was so happy I just wanted to add all my zoo photos until I realised that there are only 10 a day allowed. Ok - the next ones tomorrow:) Don't be afraid, I have only about 40. And I think I won't post my cat pics - somehow they are not really wild;) (neither cats nor photos).

Steve Irwin's voice and image has been in my household for years now. My daughter would tape every one of his shows and play them all day long ! We would not miss the Animal Planet show whenever they were in town and we had attended one just the week prior to his death.
It is believed that people are here to accomplish something, to learn a lesson or teach someone something. Some do it in just as short a time as a few months , or a few years or their entire lifetime. Steve Irwin did indeed accomplish what he wanted , to raise awareness about wildlife in 44 years. And the donations were even higher after his death !
I'm honored to have been invited, Thank you Tiger !

Thank you so much for the invite!! I truly loved everything Steve Irwin stood for in this world. Animals touch my life every day whether it is the warm, fuzzy Dachshund lying against my leg as I sleep or the beautiful tiger gazing into my eyes at the Tulsa Zoo. I have always had a connoection with animals that is stronger than any bond that I could ever find with another human.
I am honored to be here!
