WFGNA set to 'photo only'

Most people know that Flickr has started to allow videos to be uploaded in the same vein as still photos. Each group is capable of excluding moving images by the admins and i have chosen to set this group to 'photos only.' I hope that it doesn't sour people on the group because i'm not absolutely wedded to that decision (i've allowed videos in some groups).

However, i feel that wildflower identification isn't really enhanced by having a moving image, so unless i get a great outcry i'm going to keep this group as stills only.

Gosh darn it, of all the other cool stuff I wish Flickr would allow for group controls, this isn't very high on my list :-P.

I agree with the decision, zen, if I have any say in the matter ;-).

I think in 15 years someone's going to post this thread to boingboing and they'll all point to their e-paper 3-D live action wildflower field guides and laugh at what old fogies we were.

Wait, did I say "e-paper 3-D live action wildflower field guides"? I meant "instant genetic sequencing wildflower field guides." :-D

Louisiana State University Herbarium has indeed recently posted a "video voucher" of Spiranthes praecox.

Complete with (annoying) music.

ZOMG - that's not gonna get me on the side of videos for flower id anytime soon :-).

I do have some awesome videos of jewelweed pods exploding though...

I agree: video wouldn't seem necessary.
