Pool is now closed

The Wikipedia Loves Art pool is now closed for all timezones! It will take us a while to score the remaining entries, assign bonus points and clean the pool, so please be patient with us and we will post status reports in this thread as we go.

Remember, photos can't be used until they are fully captioned by each institution and the pool is finalized.

With regard to cleaning up our entries (I think we have today too, right?), I have a question about tags.

How uniform do the tags need to be? I am very confused about this. The guidelines for LACMA state that category tags should be written like this, "category.name" --but there are no set guidelines for what those category names should be.

Others have brought up the fact that "category" and "theme" has been used interchangeably in the instructions, but I am still unsure about the tagging, since each "theme/category" is specific to which collection the object is from.

For example, "motherhood" is a theme for European works of art at LACMA, but not American. Does that mean the tag should be: "European.collection.themes.motherhood" ; "European.motherhood" ; or should it have two separate tags denoting "European.collection.themes"and "motherhood" ?

I know this is a bit of a small detail, but I am just thinking about how difficult scoring will be with the unstandardized tags... I don't envy the people having to sift through all of the entries, but I thank you for doing it!

Perhaps next year (and I really hope that there is a next year!), each theme could have a predesignated tag. Something along the lines of each theme having its tag in parentheses next to it, eg: Motherhood (european.collection.themes.motherhood); Mythology (european.collection.themes.mythology) ; and so forth. It would clear up a lot of confusion, I think...

But this year was awesome, and I am really thankful for all of the hard work on the part of the organizers!

Quick status update: We are still working our way through the initial scoring and pool cleaning and hope to be done in a few days. Sorry this is taking so long. There's a lot to go through, so bear with us. ~shelley

Q: I've noticed a few score issue notes / tags for context shot issues in my stream & responded by linking the clean to the card shot - is that sufficient communication for you &/or are you going to send out another message blast for final cleanup assistance?

& seconding Veronica, no rush.

That'll be fine. I'll be letting people know via Flickr mail if things aren't sorted out by the end of the pool cleaning/scoring process. Thanks for the help with the links!

It's not possible--I haven't scored this person. We're looking into the issue. Thanks for pointing it out.

Figured out the issue: it was test data that somehow ended up on the standings board. It will be removed accordingly. Thanks again.

I didn't find this pool till March 10th.

What a great idea. We need a tag word for groups like this so they are easier to find.

Big job, hang in there12,000+ images is nothing to take lightly.

I fixed my licensing errors on all my photos. When do you think they will be scored? Hope the rest of the scoring and organizing of the pool is going well!

Hi there, all your entries were just scored. Apologies for the delay. Other people who have fixed copyright problems will also have their entries scored today.

I noticed you've tagged a number of my images today.

I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work!!! I'm sure this whole process must be taking hours and hours and hours.

Update:

Except for just a few issues the pool has been cleaned. Yay! Thank you, Erin!

We have now turned the pool over to Cary Bass from the Wikipedia Foundation to start assigning bonus points, He's got 6000+ images to go through, so we expect this to take him a while. As soon as Cary is done, we will be able to finalize the scoreboard and award prizes.

Institutions have now started to caption, but this too will to take some time. We will be posting shortly about how to pull from the group in a different thread.

We will continue to update this thread as we know more. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks,

Shelley

Update:

I just spoke with Cary and he was having a little trouble sorting the group in a way that worked best for his workflow. He's on track now and going museum by museum, so hopefully as he finishes each museum we can announce winners place by place without having to wait for the entire pool to be scored.

Our apologies again for how long this is all taking, but we should be done soon.

Many thanks,

Shelley

All winners have now been announced and most institutions have finished captioning - anything with the machine tag WLA:caption=yes is ready to go.

Pharos1, I'm going to leave it to you to coordinate with Tim at NYHS and Alex at the MET for remaining captions at those two locations. Otherwise, you should be all set to start porting these to wikipedia.
