ABOUT THE WMFR:
West Metro Fire Rescue was established January 1, 1995 when Lakewood & Bancroft Fire Districts consolidated services. WMFR is a special government district managed by a board of seven publicly elected officials. We maintain a force of 313 career firefighter/paramedics from 15 stations who serve the district's 265,000 residents over 110 square miles. That's one fire fighter for every 865 people. We are a long, narrow district sitting just west of Denver at the foot of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, providing all aspects of fire and rescue to the citizens of the City of Lakewood, Town of Morrison, southeast Jefferson County, and parts of Douglas County, including Roxborough State Park and Waterton Canyon.
West Metro Fire Rescue is dedicated to providing the best emergency services to our citizens for the most cost-effective price. As a full-service department, West Metro Fire Rescue offers not only all aspects of fire prevention and protection, but also full-time emergency medical services (EMS).

West Metro has a fleet of seven full-time ambulances (each with two paramedics), and each of our fire suppression units has paramedics and advanced life support to help get the highest medical care to patients in the quickest manner. Together, these highly trained medical personnel respond to more than 14,000 medical/rescue related calls each year. That's 66% of West Metro's emergency responses.
West Metro requires all of its firefighters to be paramedics, which means that wherever you live in the District, you can be assured your getting the best medical care available, and usually for a cost less than that of private ambulance companies. 73% of WMFR's current firefighters also hold paramedic certifications. With 223 paramedics, WMFR offers one of the best paramedic to citizen ratios in the country (1:1188), which has been demonstrated to result in higher survival rates.

WMFR dedicates more resources and personnel to fire and injury prevention than any other fire department in the state. With more than 50 educational programs for schools, businesses and community groups, WMFR places the utmost importance on education and prevention.
WMFR meets or exceeds the National Fire Protection Association's recommendation (NFPA 1710) for the number of firefighters and equipment able to respond to a full alarm within 4-6 minutes.
WMFR has an ISO Insurance rating of 3. The lower the insurance rating of a fire department, the better your insurance rates will be. The rating takes into consideration response times, water supply, station locations, geography and more. According to insurance agents, insurance rates could increase between 5 and 10% if a property does not have fire response to 911 calls average 4.2 minutes.
In 2005, West Metro responded to 22,151 total calls. 69% of those calls were medical emergencies.

West Metro has multiple special teams to target specialized emergencies in wildfire, water rescue, technical rescue, hazardous materials recovery/protection, emergency medicine, and urban search and rescue. To better serve the metro Denver area, these teams often work closely with other departments and state/federal rescue agencies.
West Metro fire fighter/paramedics increase their experience with over 188 hours of training a year. West Metro is proud to be one of only four Colorado fire departments to participate in a national certification program for firefighter training.
West Metro manages the Colorado Task Force-1 urban search and rescue team, which can be deployed anywhere in the nation within six hours for federal emergencies.
