About Weeds & Aliens
This group is intended to discover more about those opportunist plants that grow where they shouldn't!
"A weed is a plant growing in the wrong place"
So this is not another group for wild flowers only. The emphasis is about location. Where does the plant come from and where is it growing in your photograph? Some weeds are native such as daisies on a lawn. Others are exotic imports (aliens) that have been deliberately or accidently introduced into a region where they can become problematic - Japanese knotweed. Some weeds come into cultivated gardens and fields from the wild. Others go from gardens into the wild.
What we specifically exclude from this group are plants growing in cultivation and in their natural environment. That means no wildflower gardens and no bluebell woods. Weeds in gardens are fine and urban weeds are always fascinating - the stranger the location the better.
Weeds are not only beautiful - they are tough and resourceful. They are Nature's guerilla warriors against wildlife destruction, agricultural monocultures and concrete.
