New Flickr badges available

George  Pro User  says:

Hi there Blogging Peeps,

We need your help. We're about to release a new bunch of badge options for the Flickr community, and we'd like you to help us test the new system before we release it for everyone.

So, if you feel so inclined, please have a look at the new badge options here, and see if you can break it! Try lots of different photo combinations, and feel free to put as many different badges on your site as you like.

Just one more thing: Please report any bugs you find in this thread.

Thanks everyone!

I love it! That is true beauty.

One issue (not necessarily a bug): If I go back to one of the earlier steps, I lose all the changes I've made in the steps after that one. So, for example if I create my badge and then decide that I actually want to show only the photos from a particular set, I have to enter the colors and everything again.

Otherwise, it's perfect!

[Edit: OK, so Flickr remembers the colors. I seem to lose some options I've already specified, such as the number of photos. Some things Flickr remembered, though, such as the color scheme I chose.]

[Second edit: Setting background color to "transparent" doesn't work with the Flash badge. AFAIK, there isn't even a way to make Flash transparent, though it's quite possible I'm wrong.]

Oh, this is great! Took me awhile to realize that "link" color in this context means border around each photo which is linked to the flickr photo page -- couldn't figure out where that blue was coming from . . .

Bug: With the Flash Badge, clicking towards the top of it (but still below the www.flickr.com link) links to Flickr's main page, not the photo you clicked on.
Posted 87 months ago. (permalink)

George  Pro User  says:

Collin - so you click on the photo itself? Or the little bit of white space under the www link (ie not the photo)?
Posted 87 months ago. (permalink)

quas says:

I can confirm Collin's bug report. Click anywhere in the top half of the top row of images, and you'll end up at flickr.com.

Also, not necessarily a bug, but I noticed that clicking on a photo takes you to photo.gne?id=[whatever], instead of user/photo/[whatever]. It redirects you, of course, but you should still probably change that. :)

What am I doing wrong? Can it not be pasted as an entry?

Laura - that *might* be because some blog services don't like people putting scripts in their posts... it looks like it's just snipped out the contents of the badge...

Why don't you try putting a badge in the structure of your blog - the template file?

Two remarks:
Is it me or is the flashbadge not working if you select photos from a group?
Also, i think it might be convenient if, having selected a group, the thumbnail-links point on the picture in-group rather than the uploaders photo-stream.

I haven't found any noticable bugs that haven't been already mentioned, but I am annoyed at how you are forced to use the web palette to select a color. When I tried to type in the color, it wouldn't stay--or should I be hitting the Enter key to save the change?

I went the html route. I am currently using them on 2 blogs & now a 3rd.

They are very cool badges.

I picked to have 1 picture displayed w/ group link/or my addy.

I do notice that sometimes a picture won't load & only the link & the group icon is left to display.

Also if you have several on one page the others take on the characteristics [i.e colors ]of the last badge coded.

But they seem great besides that! I love being able to link to my groups, & to show everyone's photos there.

Thanks Flickr programmers! You guys Rock.

I encountered this, too -- I just hosted The Carnival of the Cats and wanted to show off several different badges, but they all took the colors of the last one.

Still looks great, though -- actually better in terms of design, but folks won't intuitively know they can have them with different color combinations.

The bug with the Flash badge taking you to flickr.com instead of the photo should now be fixed. Care to test? (You might have to clear your cache.)

RE transparency and the Flash badge: the actual grid of photos will always have a white background because of limitations with Flash itself, but the header and footer of the badge (the "www.flickr.com" and "what is this" text) should now work properly when you choose "no background".

I'm working on the other bugs right now.
Posted 87 months ago. (permalink)

view photostream

Eric  Pro User  says:

quas: number of photos should now be properly remembered.

lilithvf1998: you can now manually enter hex values.

Also, photos in set and group badges now link to the photo in set or group context.

We'd love to have you guys try out these fixes and let us know if things are working well!

Cheers.

Ok, another semi-interruption. I posted a link the badge (to my own photostream) in my sidebar at antville: resourcefull.antville.org
and made the word "Today" link to the original post where I put the script. Works beautifully!

Now, when I choose "blog this" on one of my photos that goes to a Blogger blog, it always posts floated to the right. I have to manually go back into my blog and correct to read "center" for a better composition on the blog. Any way to correct this in the "blog this" feature? Does it have something to do with the fact that I am a Mozilla user while I click "blog this"?

Kevin, I'm having the same issue of no border showing up on my site.

Also, the Flash badge broke in a bad way on my site; it sat obstinately on the left side instead of in the sidebar on the right, and the black border stretched for yards instead of hugging the badge. It may be clashing with my site's CSS, so I just took it off.

Oops -- I doublechecked the validity of my XHTML after adding the HTML badge, and something is amiss.

The element named above [style type="text/css"] was found in a context where it is not allowed. This could mean that you have incorrectly nested elements -- such as a "style" element in the "body" section instead of inside "head" ... One common cause for this error is the use of XHTML syntax in HTML documents. ...

I was wondering if there was a way you could pull from different sets (each child has own set) most recent addition or random of that set. Right now each child has it's own account and I would love to combine them all in one pro account. The only reason I'm keeping them seperate is so each child gets a badge (face time in blog). My work around could be tags (at least I could combine accounts) but it would be a better Thought I'd throw it out while you're still working on this.
