About Waymarking

Waymarking is essentially an online scavenger hunt for all ages created by Groundspeak, founders of Geocaching.com. This Flickr group features photos of waymarks, taken by waymarkers around the globe. For more info on the hobby, visit Waymarking.com. For a tutorial on how to waymark and use the Waymarking.com Website check out this beginner's guide.

Photos: There aren't really any rules here other than we ask that your photos have something to do with a waymark that you've visited or posted. Please note in the picture's description what category the place/item is waymarked in if it isn't obvious. A link to the waymark is nice, but not necessary, unless the photo is part of a group contest.

Comments: This is not a group about critiquing people's photography skills. It's about sharing favorite waymarking photos and seeing photos of cool waymarks around the world. Stay positive! This is about having fun!

To spread the word about the fun game of waymarking we've created the following html that you can copy and paste to the end of comments that you make about photos within this group's pool.

Tagging: Please add the tag "waymarking" to your photos, and also a category tag, such as "summit" for the Mountain Summits category or "Neon" for the Neon Lights category. We won't take away your birthday if you don't – it just makes it easier for people to find your great photos.

How to play: Each month a thread will be started that lists the theme of the contest. Waymarkers are then asked to submit photographs of waymarks that have to do with the contest theme. The theme may be a visual one, such as "orange" or "rounded", or it might have something to do with the photographs subject, such as "children" or "statues". Choose which photo you'd like to submit to the contest and then add the appropriate tag, as listed in the monthly game thread.

Game photo tags: For voting purposes you will tag your photos using the following code: wmk (for waymarking) followed by 2 digits for the month and 2 digits for the year. So for September 2007 the tag would be wmk0907. You also need to post the waymark that the photo is associated with for verification purposes. If you are able to, please use html to create a link to the waymark page.

Voting: All photos must be submitted by 11:59pm on the last day of the month. Group members will then vote on their favorites for 7 days. To vote you will do a search using the tag and choose your favorite. Post your vote in the thread and we will tally them to find a winner.
