About The Urban Waterfront

The Urban Waterfront group is a place to share photos of that very specific area of our urban fabric. It is also a place where interested members can share thoughts and ideas and discuss relevant issues to those places.

The urban waterfront could include any urban area that overlooks or adjacent to a river, sea, lake, canal or an artificial water body. The focus of this group is on both the physical and the social attributes of that precise area. For instance photos of the contributors could include individual buildings, open spaces of any type and even bridges. However, they could include pictures that depict human activates on the waterfront such as people strolling, fishing, sitting in a café, sunbathing…etc.

The main aim of this group is to show how vibrant is that urban diaphragm, to show its cross-cultural commonality besides diversity. However, it strives to show where urban planners have gone or still going right or wrong. In another word this group is interested in showing both the positive and negative issues of the urban waterfront; some photos could include vibrant weekly markets on a picturesque riverside and others show leftover tracts, decaying factories and collapsing wharves.

Group’s Rules

This is an easy going group but this doesn’t mean anything goes. The following guidelines came to my mind after monitoring the group for some time:

1- Specify the location and name of the place
2- Add ‘waterfront’ tag to the posted photo
3- Refrain from posting photos of natural waterfronts as this group is geographically limited to the urban waterfront only
4- No heavily photoshopped images including b&w
5- Pictures of ports and bridges are welcomed but they must show the surrounding urban areas

This is a temporary list so if you guys think of anything more to add to it please feel free to send me all your suggestions
