About Warrington Photographic Society
WARRINGTON PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
The Society exists to promote interest among its members in all photographic matters including digital working. It has about 60 members in total and meets weekly from September to April. During the Summer Season, the club meets for walks or outdoor excursions approximately one Sunday every month, these start from the clubs meeting room.
The Society has a varied winter programme of activities, mainly lectures with prints, transparencies or digital, practical technique demonstrations, and club competition evenings where members can exhibit their work in competition. The Society also has an annual exhibition of member's work.
The Society is not a teaching organisation and does not possess permanent darkroom or computing facilities. However the advice of experienced members is always available, and the programme of lectures and demonstrations provides useful information. The Society encourages all its members at all levels to develop their photographic skills in digital and/or darkroom working.
The Society is affiliated to the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU), which provide panels of judges and lecturers which are used during the winter programme. The L&CPU also sends a selective entry of prints, slides and audio/visual to the annual competition organised by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), there are a total of 14 Federations in Great Britain that make up the alliance. The results of these competitions are exhibited annually by the PAGB as the best of British Photography of the year.
