About Wall Faces

This group provides a study space of sculpture faces and heads oddly attached to walls and other building features. many are found in Venice (Venezia), Italy.

I would love to see more examples of this strange and intriguing form of public art. Any folklore or background information is welcome too.

Note:
While I love Mascarons, they don't exactly fit into this group. Mascarons represent a formal architectural element usually found on window frames or upon arch keystones. Howwever, feel free to add them if you must.

Wall faces, on the other hand, seem to be an afterthought born perhaps of too much wine on the building site. They are solitary and stuck in odd places, seeming to have no purpose other than to quietly survey a street and to bemuse passersby. Perhaps they serve as gargoyles or wards against misfortune.

Other mild restrictions:
I would rather not have much in the way of water spouts, garden pottery stuff, nor contemporary art installation. The purpose of the contemporary art seems different than the mysterious and indecipherable old world wall faces.

However, that should be for you to decide. If you think an image somehow fits with these enigmatic faces, please add it. Thanks!
