About WAHM SNS

HOW TO FIGURE OUT YOUR STASH GAME POINTS:

Now, on to the rules regarding scoring…

Fabric purchased before the Stash Game and received during the Stash Game counts as existing stash, not as negative points. This includes fabric ordered, but not yet paid for (ie, from a co-op).

Fabric purchased during the Stash Game, but not received until after the Stash Game ends, counts against you

(-8pts per yd).

Any type of sewing, either personal or business (or knitting/crocheting for the yarn WAHMs, or embellishing for the embellishing WAHMs) earns points:

+8 pts per yard sewn from stash

+4 pts per yard sold from stash

+4 pts per yard given away from stash

+4 pts per yard thrown away from stash

-8 pts per yard purchased during stash game

+4 pts per yard sewn from fabric purchased* during stash game.

*Customs exception. If you must purchase fabric specifically for a custom order, then while the fabric yardage counts against you (-8 pts per yd), you will earn +8 pts per yd sewn for that custom order. But if you sew some of that purchased fabric for something else, you only earn +4 pts per yd for that.

+1 pt per type of Notion used (interfacing, dye, fabric scrap, buttons, snaps*, binding, bias tape, ribbing, ric-rac, zippers, elastic, stabilizer, labels, etc.) Thread does not count as a notion!

*Snaps rule: + 1 pt if you use 1 - 15 snaps on an item. If you use 15 – 30 snaps on an item, count +2 pts. If you use over 30 snaps on an item, count +3pts. A “snap” is two parts…either a socket and cap together, or a stud and cap together. So, for example, if your diaper has 17 sockets on the belly, 6 studs on the wings, 2 crossover sockets on one wing, 2 studs on the bottom of the soaker, and 2 sockets on the inside of the diaper for the soaker to snap into, then your diaper has a total of 29 snaps and it earns + 2 pts for that.

+3 pts for ufo's (these are unfinished projects you’ve had lying around)

+1 pt for sewing something from your scrap basket into something, but no points for throwing away or donating scraps.

Stretch lace counts as yardage.

+1 pt per for accessorizing (matching hat with dress, etc.)

+1 for Charity

+1 per hoop for machine embroidery

+ 1pt for Dyeing an item, as if dye were a notion.

Mending: No points for mending.

Quilts: If you quilt/bind/aka finish a quilt during the stash game then the following would apply:

1) Backing counts as yardage

2) Batting counts as yardage

3) Binding counts as notion

4) Pre-patched fabric counts as yardage (this includes quilt tops completed before the beginning of the stash game as well as cheater pre-patch fabric)

5) Quilt pieced during the stash game counts as yardage.

Trades or Swaps: Receiving finished product in exchange for stash sewing does not count against you (and you earn points for the sewing). Receiving yardage for stash sewing DOES count against you (you must deduct 8 pts per yd received). Trading yardage for equal yardage does not count against you.

Thrift store purchases: If you buy an article of clothing to turn into something else, then you calculate points based on the yardage the pattern requires.

+1 pt per item for Sew n Shows: Post in the Daily Sew N Show thread to show pictures of what you’ve made, and you will earn an extra point, per item. It’s ok to show multiple items in the same picture, and snapshots are fine (no need to carefully arrange them like you would for display in your store). Also, if you come to the forum to post your Sew N Show for the day and you find that the Daily thread has not yet been started, please feel free to start that day’s thread yourself. It is OK to post comments on other participant’s pictures in the thread.

Points Guidelines on Commonly Made WAHM Items

This section posts handy points total for commonly made items. It doesn’t include points you would get for notions, Sew N Show, charity donation, etc… But it’s useful for figuring points for yardage/yarnage. If your pattern differs from the average, adjust the points accordingly for your use. Remember we are on the Honor System here.

DIAPERS Note: this chart is a handy yardage reference. Either use the points in this chart to figure your yardage for diapers OR use your own yardage measurements, NOT both.

Fitteds/AIO's/AI2s - SOAKERS INCLUDED

NB = 1/2 yard (4 points)

Small = 3/4 yard (6 points)

Medium = 1 yard (8 points)

Large = 1 1/4 yard (10 points)

One Size = 1 1/4 yard (10 Points)

XLarge = 1 1/2 yard (12 points)

Pockets/Lined covers SOAKERS NOT INCLUDED

NB = 2/9 yard (1 point)

Small = 2/7 yard (2 points)

Medium = 1/3 yard (3 points)

One Size= 2/5 yard ( 4 points)

Large = 2/5 yard (4 points)

Single layer covers

NB/Small = 1 point

Medium/Large/OneSize = 2 points

Wipes and Soakers: Since these vary so much depending on size and number of layers, everyone just calculate your yardage yourself. For example, if your wipes are 2 layers, 6” x 6”, and you’re using 60” wide fabric, then you know that 1 yd of fabric will yield 30 wipes. So 30 wipes would earn + 8pts.

YARN

+8 per hour for knitting

+8 per hour for crochet

+8 per hour for spinning

+2 for completed small project (food, soaker, etc)

+4 for completed large project (longies, blanket, etc)

Changed from the last stash game!

-4 for each new skein you bought

+4 for each skein used

+2 for each skein donated/sold

+1 if you dyed the skein yourself

+4 if you made a diaper related item from the skein/skeins

EMBELLISHING

+ 2 per blank used (prefold, t-shirt, etc…)

+ 1 per applique or equivalent embellishment, regardless of the number of different fabrics used, unless more than 1/8 yd is used. In that case, calculate based on yardage (1/8 yd = 1pt).

+1 per embroidery (each hooping gets a point)

Here is an example of how I've posted my points in past stash games:

Date: 4/1/2011
Item(s) sewn: 13 Size 2 Trainers ( such and such points for fabric use)
Notions (such and such points)
SNS (such and such points)
Snaps (such and such points)
Daily total: Sucha and such points

now you don't have to post it that way by all means find your own system that works for you because this is just the system that I know works for me and I just wanted to show an expample :-)
