About volutionary image (Volutions Magazine)

note: photos in this group are considered submissions to Volutions Magazine, an arts magazine based in Durham/Chapel Hill (North Carolina), Charlottesville (Virginia), Sevilla (Spain), and wherever else our editors happen to exist.

Before posting, ask yourself: "What would Walter Benjamin do?" Or smoke a doobie and have a seat.

Note that posts to this group are submissions to Volutions Magazine, and thus, you are giving permission to publish submitted images to the magazine (http://www.volutionsmagazine.com).

To this end, you would ideally submit a small series of tenously related images (makes for better publishing), best with some sort of title that is potentially entirely unrelated.

Volutions does not reap any economic benefit from publishing--we are an entirely non-profit outfit funded by our own meager monies. We are in it for the passion, and to pass the time until the next football match / awkward social event.

Take a look at our magazine and if you find this is for you, then welcome!

MORE:

The purpose of this group is to take digital imaging technology (strictly defined as anything that can be seen on a computer screen) as a medium for an expression of something beyond the technology itself. In other words, an artistic group that is capable of creative assertions regarding the image, the subject, and the objects/content.

The _volutionary movement stays away from the clear demarcations of many vanguards, and instead focuses on a search for the durable, or the eternally signifying element of a work. In the quest to find and create such objects, the artist passes through the depths and over the most precarious fringes of the human, dipping into the post-human, shedding along the way elements of the cyborg-robot.

In a Flickr world, tediously wrought microcosm of the Web 2.0 world that is really just another world, popularity is nirvana. Interestingness is enlightenment. The only mediocrity is unpopularity; hell is obscured visibility, silence, shyness. Mediocrity is like true love that needs to be seduced, enticed, romanced, and most of all, worked for in the sense of sacrifice. How many of the popular images are nude or semi-nude women and men, caricatures of people fitted for the meat-market of the colonized body? How much of popularity is dispensable, printed on a Styrofoam plate that will be burned for a second's heat tomorrow?

The volutionary group strives to draw a line, a fold perhaps, in this world where speed, guises of futurism, massification, commercialism, and attention threaten essential needs of the thinker-artists senses. The Volutionary group is a surface where suppression by majority is suppressed itself, and voices are drawn for the committed to compose their discourse.

Art, in the sense of this group, is a place to be born, reborn, and be discovered.

This group is associated with the online publication _volutions Magazine. Images from the group may be solicited for inclusion in future _volutions publications.
