Winner revealed!
Thank you for your incredible entries in VivacityVision - we received over 1,000 photographs from Sydneysiders and visitors, amateurs and professionals alike, all offering unique perspectives of Vivacity 09, Sydney’s signature season of events.
Choosing a winner from over 1000 images was a challenge but the judges were looking for a unique shot that captured the colour, fun, emotion and excitement of Sydney in summer, showcasing a view from the crowd and the celebrating personal experiences.
The winner of VivacityVision is Sean Diver for NYE in Sydney.
Sean recently moved to Sydney from Dublin, Ireland and his fresh perspective on the harbour city is expressed in his colourful, personal shot at his own New Years Eve celebrations.
"The scene was shot just after the 9pm fireworks," Sean explains, "I had pretty much just arrived about an hour beforehand having misjudged the popularity of the venue and having to queue for over three hours to get in. When I eventually made it in all the places with good views of the harbour were full, so during the fireworks I walked along Mrs Macquaries Road trying to get a better vantage point.
"I'm from Ireland, so to me New Years Eve conjures up images of freezing conditions where everyone crowds together in an overpriced pub and long walks home in the cold wearing big coats, hats and gloves because it's impossible to get a taxi. Now in Sydney, to see everyone around me celebrate the New Year with picnics, wine, sunshades - it all just seemed like a world away from what I was used to at home. Add to this the wonderful backdrop of Sydney and I had the perfect scene. You could say I took the photo to show everyone at home how different New Years Eve is here - and of course to make them jealous!"

exciting new Vivid Sydney festival in May/June. Vivid Sydney will transform the city into a
spectacular living canvas of creativity, music and light in and around the Sydney Opera House,
The Rocks and Circular Quay.
