About Visual Mashups

This group is dedicated to "visual mashups."



The word "mashup" is everywhere these days. Wikipedia defines a digital mashup as "a digital media file containing any or all of text, graphics, audio, video and animation drawn from pre-existing sources, to create a new derivative work."

There are text mashups, video mashups, music mashups, and now web mashups!

The visual arts have long had their own mashups - collages, decollages, assemblages, papier colle, altered books, readymades, photomontages, mosaics, photo mosaics, digital mosaics, digital collages, mulitple exposures, and other various mixed media pieces. (As one essayist put it: "be they called collage or décollage , montaz or montage, photomontage or assemblage, découpage or cut-up.")



Here, you will find all types of visual mashups, including digital, photographic, nonrepresentational, abstract, representational, portraits, patterns, and so on.

Fractal work is also welcome here, since fractals, by their very nature, are made up of recursively smaller versions of themselves. A fractal is a visual mashup of versions of itself - the ultimate in self-referential art!

Along that line, this group also welcomes self-referential art of any kind: self portaits, mirror work, word art, and on and on!

So, please post your collages, mosaics, composites, fractals, and self-referential pieces. If you have a piece which gives a new layer of meaning to "visual mashup," please post it here!

Always feel free to comment on your techniques, your hardware, your software, or what "visual mashup" means to you.
