About Virtual Mountain Range

To stop the destructive form of Mountaintop Removal mining, we’re not asking you to move mountains…just help us make our own! The Stop Mountaintop Removal campaign—which includes Earthjustice, the Appalachian Center for the Economy and the Environment, Coal River Mountain Watch, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition and the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy—is building the world’s largest virtual mountain range, made entirely of your mountain photos. Each picture of mountains that are important to you that you upload will add a piece to the picture, and strengthen our fight to Stop Mountaintop Removal!

Your mountain picture can be of any mountain that is significant to you – somewhere near where you live, or a special mountain you have visited, or even a picture of mountaintop removal that helps to tell the story of how important mountains (and the streams near them) are to our communities and our nation. If you like, include a short description of your photos. We’ll keep track of them and highlight the best pictures and stories on www.StopMountaintopRemoval.org.

Leading up to a National Day of Action on October 11, 2008, our virtual mountain range will tell the coal companies who practice mountaintop removal mining, and the politicians who support them, that we will stand together to protect our mountains. Share your mountain photo today!
