About Virginia & Truckee Railroad

The V&T Railroad, past, present, and future.

The Virginia and Truckee was a short line railroad that ran from Carson City, Nevada in three directions. East to Virginia City, north to Reno, and south to Minden. The line operated from 1869 to 1950.

In 1976 the railroad was relaunched in Virginia City by Bob Gray as a tourist railroad, running first to the tunnel south of town, then in 1991 all the way to Gold Hill.

In 2004 the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway started construction to extend the tourist line all the way from Gold Hill to Carson City. In 2009 the first passenger trains between the two cities were run on the reconstructed line.

Much of the historic equipment is held at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, and new equipment has been brought to Virginia City to run the reconstructed line. Photos of any of that, or any other photos relating to the V&T, are welcome in this group.
