About Vintage Dragonfly's Altered Matchbox GroupThis group is for the friends and swappers of Vintage Dragonfly's blog.  I became addicted to these mini cards swapping in our fellow group member, Kim's swap blog, Tabby's Swaps. Kim has temporarily suspended those swaps and graciously offered that I do some here. (Thanks again Kim!) You will be making 7 mini cards and receiving 6 in return. This time around as your hostess I'd like to be able to keep a piece of everyone's artwork. Cards are 1" x 3" (microscope slide) size. They should be backed on chipboard, matboard - something that won't bend. The more embellished the better-can't stress this enough. My little display card has layered images, stickles, glitter, little pearls and a brass charm. You really can do a lot with a tiny pallette! Send them to me no later than July 12th. Include a return address label and $2 cash for shipping. Flickrmail me if you need my address. Could there be a better summertime theme? Create some mermaid magic! A Midsummer Night's Dream Matchbox Swap Due August 3, 2012  A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of my favorite Shakesperian works. Written in the late 1500's, it's an Elizabethan tale of romance, fantasy and magic. We will be altering 1 large (250 count) matchbox. Design the exterior in keeping with the feel of the theme. You do not have to portray specific characters or scenes (though you certainly may) but try to capture the ethereal sense this play exudes. Think fairies, the forest and its creatures, Elizabethan maidens, moonlight. Think fantasy and magic. Fill the box with all things heavenly, ethereal and magical! Get REALLY creative with this one!!!!! Boxes shuld be sent to your partner no later than August 3 though you can send anytime before then. It's summer time, busy time for many, so this is one you can jump in at your leisure but please sign up only if you have the time to create something wonderful for your partner between now and the beginning of August. This will be the ONLY matchbox swap (there may be a bonus swap or two) before the fall. Now start dreaming...... Partners Choice Matchbox Swap Due June 1, 2012  How much fun will this be! When you sign up for this swap you will list your loves...favorite colors, favorite themes, favorite styles, favorite embellishments, favorite materials. We're using the big 250 count matchboxes so you're also going to create a list of loves for inside the box...vintage, chippy, frilly, victorian, retro. We're not listing specific items but general ideas to get your partner going. Put down lots and lots of loves. Give your partner several ways to go with this. The idea isn't to be so specific that it's a blueprint and you should be surprised, as well as delighted, with what you receive! Signups open through April 21. BONUS SWAP! Altered Ancestors Collaborative CDV Book Due May 11, 2012  Our last book was so well received I figured it was time for another! This time we'll be altering cdvs, which are small antique photos from the late 1800's. Everyone will send me 5 and I'll bind them into a book of 5 to return to you. Cdvs are great little pallettes! Paint them, stamp them, use rub-ons, embellishments. Cdvs can be found at estate sales and on etsy and ebay. I have some packaged sets of 5 newly listed in my etsy. NEW SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT: DUE MARCH 30 A Panoramic Easter Swap  Using 1 large 250 count matchbox create an Easter scene (no religious themes please) inside. Alter your box any way you wish but so your partner has to look inside to see your scene. Your scene can be made using any materials you wish - paper, dimenional miniature objects, chipboard, clay - your imagination is the limit. The exterior of your box should of course be decorated as well. Your box DOES NOT have to be altered to resemble an egg. The egg analogy was for the interior only. Signups through March 7th. Partners will be posted March 8th. MAIL BY March 30th, with delivery confirmation. BONUS SWAP! Luck O' The Irish ATC Book Swap Due March 3, 2012  Thanks to my dear friend Kim, we have a St Patty's Day collaborative project! This is limited to 12 participants and completed atc's MUST be in Kim's hands no later than March 3rd. Please do not sign up unless you are able to make the due date!!! Make 12 (page count may be different after signups but 12 will be the max) standard size St. Patty's Day atc's. Use a sturdy base-at least heavy cardstock. Pages may be all the same or different-it's up to you. Embellish, embellish, embellish but leave left side of page free of embellishments for binding. These must be in the mail SO THEY REACH KIM BY MARCH 3RD. Include $5 for postage and a return shipping label. Kim will make the covers, bind our pages into a sweet little book and have your copy back in your hands before St. Patrick's Day! Sign-ups through Saturday. January, 28th or until we reach 12 participants. NEW SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT Due February 8th, 2012 Be My Valentine Matchbox Swap  Think Valentine and think miniature! For this swap we're returning to the SMALL 32 count matchbox. Alter your matchbox in keeping with the valentine theme. Now for the really fun part, and challenge! Create 3 miniature valentine atc's that fit inside the box. How sweet will this be? Sign-up before January 20th. Partners will be assigned January 21st. You will need to send your Valentine swap with DELIVERY CONFIRMATION no later than February 8th. Due December 1st Secret Santa Advent Christmas Swap  Remember the anticipation and excitement of counting down the days to Christmas with an advent calendar as a child? Can you keep a secret? For 25 days? Join in some holiday fun and play Secret Santa for one of your group members! Here are the details: 1. Alter TWO of the large 250 count matchboxes in holiday style. Any style goes but you may want to snoop around your partners blog, website or etsy to find out what they like. Your boxes may be kept separate, stacked-whatever you choose. 2. You need 2 boxes because inside you are going to put 25 SMALL WRAPPED & NUMBERED HOLIDAY THEMED AND HOLIDAY CRAFTING ITEMS. This does not and should not be an expensive swap. You may use nice items from your own stash (and I know we all have stashes!) Ribbon, trims, mini ornaments, tiny bells, images. Think tiny and fun! 3. The gift marked #25 for Christmas Day should include something that reveals your identity. Won't this make the often crazed holiday season fun, having just a little surprise something for you every day of December? Signups will be a little different for this swap. In addition to saying you want to play under the signup post you need to flickrmail me your complete mailing address with a blog url, website, etsy - somewhere your Secret Santa can do some sleuthing. I'm going to copy and paste the info you send me and forward it to your Secret Santa. Please only signup if you are positive you can have this in your partner's hands by December 1st at the latest. Now go have some HO HO HOliday matchbox fun! BONUS HALLOWEEN SWAP!!!!!  How about a quickie bonus swap? Make 7 gothic or mosque shaped cards which will be incorporated into a mini book. They may be all the same or different. THEME: This is a gothic tale and the artwork should reflect that. SIZE: Mine are approximately 2.5" x 4" tall (minus trim) so keep them somewhat in that size range. They don't have to be exact. Variance in size and shape make the book more interesting! BINDING: I'm doing a simple 2 hole punch on the left hand side and will bind with fiber and/or ribbon. When you're embellishing remember to leave me a little room for a couple of holes. DUE DATE: Must be in my hands by Friday, October 14th. I'll do a quick turn around and get your little book back in your hands by the following weekend. NEW SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT (Swap for October 2011)  Alter 1 big 250 count matchbox in a Halloween theme. Create AT LEAST 4 handmade items for inside the box. ATC's, mini shrines, altered small matchboxes, paper dolls, domino pendants, earrings, pins, charms. Anything as long as it's Halloween themed. You MUST include at least four handmade items but there is no limit so create away! If you need a touch of inspiration visit my blog, vintagedragonfly.blogspot.com. You can add purchased items or other's creations as filler but keep it unique. You may also spoil your partner a little on this one and include items that don't quite fit in the matchbox. This will be a partnered swap so you will send to the same person you receive from. Spend some get acquainted time to learn your partners likes and dislikes-favorite Halloween colors, skeletons or witches, creepy or cute-you get the idea. Sign-ups are through August 31. Mermaids, sunken treasure, coral, shells, colorful fish, water nymphs. Think of the many techniques you could use to create your undersea fantasy. This swap screams embellish!!!!! Alter 1 small (32 count) matchbox. Inside you have the choice of creating a mini shrine with an oceanic vignette or stuffing it with treasures of sea themed items. Sign up through May 15th and mail out by June 15th. Partners will be posted by May 20th. You should contact your partner within a week via flickrmail to obtain mailing info. Please use flickrmail.
