Please share your vintage groups here. I will add it to the list appearing on the front page.
60s & 70s Eye Candy
Oh, those wacky KID'S books from the early 60's to the late 70's. This includes trippy hippie psychedelica, the Brit Mod explosion, Pop zipatone Super Graphics, plus, ecofriendly tracts and rantings of the hopped up and insane, and the commerical exploitative rebound of faux hippy work of the 70's.
As He Was
The Man, the Myth - ephemeral remnants of the male past.
Vintage books, advertisments, illustrations and ephemera of the male variety. Ideals of masculinity and male form, stereotypes, social norms, expectations and aberrations.
Humorous and/or ironic submissions preferred, mostly circa 20s through the 70s (can be from other eras as well).
As She Was
Ephemeral remnants of the female past.
Vintage books, advertisments, illustrations and ephemera of the female variety. Charm, etiquette, posture, attitudes, fashion, hairstyles and representations of the female form. Ideals of femininity and form, feminism (and anti-feminism), stereotypes, social norms, expectations and aberrations.
Humorous and/or ironic submissions preferred, mostly circa 20s through the 70s (can be from other eras as well).
Beer and Booze: A Damn Fine Product
Please join my new pool glorifying the VINTAGE advertisement and packaging of BEER, hard liquor (hooch) and all things alcoholic - the vintage ads, product and package designs for America's favorite alcoholic beverages. Vintage alcohol signs are also good.
Circa 30s-50s (give or take a few decades, or so). Photos (or scans) should be taken by you from your own collections of ephemera (not from other people's web pages).
Vintage ads (and other print ephemera) featuring alcohol, beer and liquor packaging, vintage cocktail accoutrements, ads showing Americans enjoying a tipple-- these are encouraged. Pink elephant images, if vintage, are especially welcome.
Birthday Cakes of the Past
Do you have photos of your birthday cakes through the early years?
Calling all vintage (1980s or earlier) photos that picture birthday cakes (whole or part), whether yours, your relatives and friends, or found photos. Birthday cupcakes also welcome.
Join our nostalgic, humorous (and sweet) trip down confectionary memory lane.
Coffee: A Damn Fine Product
Please join my new pool glorifying VINTAGE coffee product - the vintage ads, product and package designs for coffee and its lesser brother, coffee substitute... these ads can be pretty hilarious, as they glorify this hearty drink, and denounce the evil CAFFEIN, Mr. Grumpy, and other zombies of caffeine overexposure. (Creamers and other directly coffee-related products are also ok).
Circa 30s-50s (give or take a few decades, or so). Photos (or scans) should be taken by you from your own collections of ephemera (not from other people's web pages).
Early Advertising
Specifically, advertisements dating from 1880 to 1920. I am choosing this forty year period because this is when advertising evolved from its earliest roots providing straightforward product and service information to the art form it became by the 1920s.
Ephemera
Definition: A short-lived thing. Printed matter of passing interest.
Show us your vintage photos, old certificates, foriegn money, train tickets, found paper documents, and other interesting printed materials.
{Got ephemera in your artwork? That's fine too...add it here!}
Feelin' 7-Up!
7-Up.
You like it... It likes You!!
Vintage advertising, signs, products, bottles, cans, packaging, toys, recipes, and other 7-up (Seven-up) soda-related ephemera.
Illustration
For illustrators and lovers of illustration
I Love My Appliance
VINTAGE advertising images of women (and men) with a more than friendly enthusiasm for their modern electric home appliances. Images should show someone enthusiastically displaying/using their appliance, whether it be a oven, freezer, refrigerator, toaster, typewriter, phone, iron, mixer, blender, barbecue, you name it!!
You know the kind of mid-century ad illustration I mean - the one where the woman (or man) is absolutely ecstatic about their new electric home appliance - often with their hand extended towards the product, and a huge smile on their face... much happier about their appliance than any person in the real world would ever be, like it has changed their life!! I figured that it was time to showcase these happy happy customers.
J.C.Leyendecker
Joseph Christian Leyendecker
(1874 - 1951)
One of the best Illustrators of the Twentieth Century. His works appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, American Weekly, Collier's, Popular Magazine, Century Illustrated, Ladies' Home Journal and many more. His Advertisements for Kuppenheimer, Interwoven socks, Chesterfield, Kellogg's, Ivory, & Pierce Arrow are legendary. He created many American visual icons (New Year's Baby, Santa Claus, Arrow Collar Man) that were copied in abundance and influenced most illustrators who followed him, in particular Norman Rockwell.
Jazz-Age in Print
Celebrating the fabulous jazz-age illustrators and (graphic designers) and the illustrations and print design they created in the 1920s and 1930s.
Illustration and print design of the twenties through the thirties, including:
Editorial illustration, magazine and newspaper advertisement, book illustration, posters, sheet music, record cover illustration, postcards, typography and package design.
Marketing Inspirations
MARKETING INSPIRATIONS - how the marketing looks nowadayz?! Share your pictures & pictures you've found on web. Whatever you want - tv spots, pressvertising, ambient, outdoor, viral marketing, guerilla etc.
Found something interesting in your city or coutry...? Show it to the people who are really interested in marketing.
Mid-Century Illustrated
A place to post *anything* illustrated, for *any* audience, from the period spanning 1945-1965 (with a little latitude on either end).
We're looking for illustrations from sources including, but not limited to, magazines (including advertising), books, packaging, record album covers, etc.
The only thing I can think that probably doesn't belong are snapshot-type photos from the era, unless they're of signage ... there is another group, 1950's Style, that encompasses that kind of thing. In fact, we're not looking for any photography, even printed in mags or books, unless the typography that accompanies it is particularly special.
It's not that we don't love the cool editorial and advertising photography of the time, but our aim is to feature the illustration, graphic layout styles, and typography of the period.
Pulp Fiction
Detective novels, adventure comics, trashy romance, Blaxploitation. Any pulp books or comics you see.
The Red Menace - Echoes of Communism
Vintage (not current!) historic portrayals of Communism, Socialism, USSR/Russian, Communist China and Cold War fears in print propaganda and popular culture.
Anti-communist propaganda in posters and advertisements, products, pulp fiction book covers and jackets depicting communist and socialist themes (including Soviet-era espionage and spy novels), Soviet-era ephemera, from behind the Iron Curtain, Czechoslovakia, etc....
The Retro-Teen
An official offshoot of The Retro Kid, this group features illustration and art aimed at teenagers from the mid-40's through the mid-60's. This includes books, textbooks, magazines, ads, commercials, records, albums, packaging, and any other products that featured teenagers or were aimed at the teenage market. I'm willing to accept records and ads with photography, as long as it is definitely geared for teenagers, and that there is some element of intriguing design in the submission.
For the record, teenage years are ages 13 through 19. There may be some crossover from The Retro Kid, but that's okay. I don't mind. I don't want to be too much of a stickler for these sorts of things.
It was an interesting time for teenagers, as companies and advertising agencies were just starting to tap into this soon-to-be lucrative market. It was indeed a fascinating time and the art for this generation was no exception.
Let's see what you have!
The Retro-Kid
The New Improved Retro Kid!
I'm interested in anything associated with illustrated children's books from the mid-1940's through the mid-1960's, give or take a few years. As long as it has that cool mid-century modern styling that was so popular during that time. Some of what I dig are books and anything illustrated by Mary Blair, JP Miller, The Provensen's, Art Seiden, Aurelius Battaglia, and the like. I'm not limiting to just these illustrators, but willing to be open to just about anything similar.
Also, I want this group to not be limited to just children's books, but also anything that was illustrated for kids at that time: albums, 45's, commericals, ads, games, toys, etc. If it's retro, and it looks cool, let's see it!
Smooth Smoke Slogans That Satisfy
Vintage (historic) representations of the smoking industry and advertising of addiction, from magazine and billboard ads to cigarette cards and smoking paraphenalia and packaging, circa 1920s-1970s (give or take a decade or so). Cigarettes, cigars, rolling papers, pipes, tobacco, etc. Your scans and photos, please, not harvested off the web, thanks ;-)
Welcome: Ads and representations that seem at best ironic/naive, at worst, making horrifyingly inaccurate, even blatantly false claims.
Ad copy such as "Women, because their throats are more delicate than men\'s, particularly appreciate this relief from the hot smoke of parched dry-as-dust tobacco," for instance, that is perfect.
Also welcome: Vintage signs (neon, painted, etc.), and photos of vintage packages.
Songsheets
1. Songsheets
2. Vintage preferred.
3. Esoteric more than welcome.

Love those kooky cigarette ads from the 40's and earlier? Here's a place to post your collection of all these great ads
Vintage Cookbooks
Pictures of vintage cookbook covers and page illustrations, from wacky to wonderful. Pamphlets, menus and old cooking advertisements and ephemera are also welcome!!
Vintage Dance Ephemera

Vintage illustrations from before 1970 - a place to put them all

If you have any images of vintage magazines (including the eighties) you'd like to share, that you either found on the internet or scanned at home, join us! Any magazines on any theme, are welcome. Illustrated pages are preferred. Some tasteful nudity is ok, but no porn please. Members can post as many images as they like a day.
Vintage Type
Vintage Type is a group for old time typography such as type, signs, logo's or any typographical element on ads or posters, cards or matchbooks, coupons or tickets, emblems or badges, packaging or booklets, covers or decals, electronics or roadsigns, and you name it!
The only requirement would be that the subject is clearly visible, containing retro or vintage typographical elements: the older and bolder the better!
War-Time Forties in Print
Celebrating the fabulous illustrators (and graphic designers) of the 1940s, and the illustrations and print design they created. Wartime includes late 1939-1945. Submissions from after the war (1945-1949) are also very welcome!!
Illustration and print design of the forties, including:
Editorial illustration, fashion advertising and illustration, magazine and newspaper advertisement, book illustration, propaganda posters, editorial cartoons, sheet music, record cover illustration, postcards, typography and package design.
