About Estado y Ciudad de Veracruz
The Mexican city of Veracruz on the Gulf is one of the most evocative and interesting cities in the world. If you've been there, I don't have to explain about the great food, drink, and nightlife to be enjoyed after the long, muggy days. And don't forget the rich Veracruz expresso and the grand old cafes where you can lose yourself for many hours reading La Jornada, or people-watching. Some of the best music you will ever hear is performed in the Zocalo, much of it with a strong afro-cuban/indigenous influence.
Cortez began his conquest of Mexico just north of the city, and the U.S. and France also invaded Mexico through the port of Veracruz. Friendly, interesting, talkative people inhabit the city, and graceful, sometimes crumbling buildings that speak of times gone by, and the harsh effects of sea air and drenching rains charm the photographer.
The State of Veracruz is equally as interesting, and photos that reveal the unique culture, natural beauty, and customs of this area are welcome.
