All over the world, people ride bikes ... with their clothes on.
We started this group in 2006 to showcase some cool outfits we were seeing on flickr. Since then, vélocouture is on its way to becoming a way of life. Bicycling — in everyday clothes — is catching on as a great way to get around here in North America, and we're happy to take our inspiration from other countries with a more established cycling culture.
We like to think of vélocouture as “style that moves you,” or, when we’re feeling punchy, “bicycling with your clothes on.” Because you don’t need special equipment or technical clothing to get somewhere on your bike. You just need a bike. And why not ride in style?
Submissions to the Vélocouture group pool may be re-published in our blog. If you do not want us to use your photo in our blog, please remove it from the pool.
Photos can be of yourself, or of other cyclists, caught in the act of dressing well while cycling (or the act of cycling while dressed well).
This isn't about wearing costumes or bizarre outfits while on a bike. Nor is it about showcasing cycling-specific clothing such as cycling tights or jerseys. We certainly have a soft spot in our heart for classic wool jerseys, but they ain't vélocouture. Vélocouture is about stylishly carrying oneself through the everyday -- on a bicycle.
Also, please note that this group is about fashionable cyclists, not fashionable bicycles. No bike-only shots. Again, plenty of groups exist for photos of your bike.
Please provide some information about what the subject is wearing (and pedaling), if you have any.
Since much of the practice of vélocouture involves looking good when you arrive at your destination, it's OK to remove your helmet/windjacket/rainsuit for the photo.
Please, no spamming or selling. However, if you want to provide a link to the small purveyor of a particular garment, be it yourself, a friend, or just someone you know who is making great cycling clothes, please do so.
