13 Feb 08 - V-Day Hiroshima will be held on March 15, 2008 (White Day in Japan).

We are looking for photos which embody the spirit of V-Day.
We're not afraid of vaginas, but we will remove any photos from the pool which we deem to be ill-suited to our event or to be in bad taste.

If you've joined the group or even if you're just looking, please fave or comment on any photos that you think best embody the spirit of VDay. Your feedback will help us pick out the top 25 to be exhibited and sold for donation.

About V-Day Hiroshima

V-Day is a performance of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. Performance is just the beginning.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery. V-Day stages large-scale benefits and produces innovative gatherings, films and campaigns to educate and change social attitudes towards violence against women.

V-Day Hiroshima 2008 is a multimedia and theatrical production, a community-based event and campaign to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations in Japan and abroad.

V-Day is a vision: We see a world where women live safely and freely. It's a positive gesture toward change.

V-Day offers any woman the opportunity to be themselves and every woman simultanteously. While the monologues were written by one woman, Eve Ensler, they are based on women's stories from around the world. Let's their words through your voice. Speak. Read. Share your images. Show some V-Day spirit.

V-Day Hiroshima will be held on March 15, 2008 (White Day in Japan).

At our event, we'd like to reach out to and involve both female and male members of the Flickr community by having a photo exhibit of the best 25 photos submitted to our group's pool. The top 25 will be selected by both the Flickr community (most faved) and by the organizers of V-Day Hiroshima 2008.

If your photo is selected as one of the top 25, you will agree to allow your photo to be printed no more than 3 times at a CD jewel-case size and to be sold at our event for a minimum donation of 1000 Japanese yen (around $10 U.S.). Any sale price over 1000 yen will be by voluntary donation.

If you submit a photo to this pool, it must be an image for which you are the sole copyright owner. Photographers will agree to the printing and sale terms described in the paragraph above but will of course, retain their copyright. The organizers of V-Day Hiroshima 2008 will print no more than the agreed-upon CD jewel-case size photos to be sold for donations to V-Day charities.

All proceeds from the sale of these photos will be donated to V-Day Hiroshima 2008 charities (V-Day Katrina Warriors, Amnesty International's Stop Violence Against Women Campaign, and a local woman's shelter in Japan).

The deadline for submission to this pool will be 8:00 AM Monday, March 3 here in Japan.

Winners will be notified and need to confirm their agreement to participate in our event by midnight Friday, March 7, 2008 (in Japan).

We plan on displaying the jewel-cased photos in a 5x5 grid.

We will post photos of the event and the winners' photos on display here in this pool for everyone to see.

We're also asking for the general public to gather and show their support for the UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict by participating in a photo shoot at Chuo Koen (Central Park) in Hiroshima on February 17 to spread the cross-armed "X" gesture. Read more about it here.

Stay up-to-date with V-Day Hiroshima 2008 by visiting our blog.

Please join us in our campaign to put an end to all violence to women and girls everywhere.

We look forward to seeing your photos!
