The Voyageurs Cup began in 2002 as a trophy awarded by Canadian soccer supporters to the best professional Canadian soccer club. In 2008, it was officially sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association, and became a tournament separate from league play (known as the Nutrilite Canadian Championship). The winner of the tournament represents Canada in the CONCACAF Champions League.
The Voyageurs Cup is currently contested between Canada's four professional soccer clubs: Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal Impact, and FC Edmonton.
