About Vancouver Story - Revealing Images of Lost Humanity

Vancouver's Downtown Eastside portrays a sad image for Vancouver. The issues faced by the population, and by the city are complex beyond the already complicated addiction and poverty issues we visibly see.

The issues of this area of town, and of many peoples of Vancouver, are steeped in the historical context of cultural division, forced and self-imposed segregation, profiteering businesses and black market dealers, just to name a few of the past causal factors affecting Vancouver's present day.

This group's purpose is to collect images that tell this story. Historical photographs and present day photographs of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, its people, its problems, and its heroes, are being sought.

Please Note that these photographs will be used for web-publication for a site still in development. This website will become a community of all walks of life who are in support of positively managed change that seeks to Keep the Door Open.

In keeping with that, I'd like to share that Keeping the Door Open is actively seeking support and funding partners to make this community-based website project a reality.

iXLd Media Inc. has generously provided the vehicle that will host an interactive online socially engaging website that will offer all contributors the opportunity to create a public or private profile, to create and publish a blog on the site, and to add content - including through this group with your photographs which tell stories far beyond the abilities of the writer.

Myself, I've begun to take ownership of this project as it is something that has affected my personal history this past decade or so with Vancouver. Devastated by what I saw and experienced, not just what lives on the streets of the Downtown Eastside, but also the callous attitudes that occupied many of downtown Vancouver's wealthy investment offices where I was working at the time.

With my skills as a Social Media Promoter created from my own lifetime work with computers, promoting my past business and now writing at One Man Can make a difference, I'm in the position to act upon the passion I've felt all these years and bring some force to this project.

I'm really hoping many of you will join the group, and that some of you will volunteer as Admins and Moderators so that I can continue with the site development, content creation, and working with Keeping the Door Open and other agencies that will be integral members of this community and giving it life.

Best wishes, Lee
