About Vindaloo Against Violence
This event is to protest racially motivated violence in Melbourne by dining at your local Indian restaurant on Wednesday 24 February 2010.
Vindaloo Against Violence gives ordinary Melburnians a peaceful, easy way to:
* embrace and show solidarity with the local Indian community
* signal to the Indian media that Australians do not accept racially motivated violence and racism
* shift the local media, government and law enforcement focus from personal safety measures to identifying the root causes behind the violence and finding ways to diffuse the criminal behaviour.
The idea is simply for everyday people to come together to support their immigrant communities in a very Melbourne way: through great food.
We hope that the restaurants who benefit from this initiative will channel the community spirit and ‘pay it forward’ by donating some funds from the day to a worthy local anti-violence or anti-racism cause.
