About US Route 2
U.S. Route 2 is an east–west U.S. Highway spanning 2,579 miles across the northern continental United States. US-2 consists of two segments connected by roadways in southern Canada. Unlike some routes, which are disconnected into segments because of encroaching Interstate Highways, the two portions of US- 2 were designed to be separate in the original 1926 highway plan.
The western segment of US-2 has its western terminus at State Route 529 (Maple Street) in Everett, WA and its eastern terminus at I-75 in St. Ignace, MI. The Western segment passes through the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
The eastern segment of US-2 has its western terminus at US-11 in Rouses Point, NY and its eastern terminus at I-95 in Houlton, ME. The Eastern segment passes through the states of New York (less than a mile), Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
As its number indicates, it is the northernmost east-west U.S. Route in the country. It is the lowest primary-numbered east–west U.S. Route. A large portion of the western segment of US-2, and a shorter piece of the eastern segment, follows the old "Theodore Roosevelt International Highway". This auto trail, named in honor of the late former president and naturalist Theodore Roosevelt, was organized in February 1919 to connect Portland, Maine with Portland, Oregon.
What's OK here:
This group is for photos taken on U.S. Route 2, or within sight of US-2. Photos can be of most anything (historical sites, places, signs, parades, small towns, etc) as long as they're located on US-2. In particular, stuff like:
• Old Motels, Cafes, Diners, Stores, businesses, operating or abandoned.
• Shots of the road itself. (Please, make them interesting.)
• Old signs. ...NOT new signs or roadsigns, unless it's something funny or strange.
• Roadside weirdness or kitsch, including vintage roadside attractions and tourist traps.
• Scenery shots are OK, but we don't want to become a "flowers & sunsets" kinda group.
• Both new and old routings of US-2 are welcome, including Business routes of US-2.
• Ephemera (postcards, pennants, etc) of vintage businesses or roadside attractions directly relating to US-2 are also welcome. (Note: the "ephemera" angle is one we're trying on a temporary basis. We'll see how that goes. If not, it'll be back to "photos only".) Postcards or ephemera must be for subjects located directly on U.S. Route 2.
What we're not looking for:
• No "people shots". We're not really looking for your family or friends, we're looking for things we'd see along the route.
• No photos of your yard, your pets, or similar stuff. Again, we're looking for US-2 shots, the photos of a traveler.
• No "urban grit" sort of stuff. While rural abandonment is fine here, there's other groups for Urbex, graffiti and other big city decay. "Big city" shots that fit the "what's OK" list are fine however. (Old motels, cafes, old signs, etc)
If you're not sure if your photo(s) fit, bring them along. If they don't, we'll remove them, no hard feelings, ok?
NOTE: Please tag your photos with at least the city (or nearest city) and with "US-2". Folks might want to see what you photographed for themselves, so help them find it!
Please help us grow!

Likewise, if you know people that don't have such photos, but would enjoy the topic, bring them along too. Let's have fun together! :-)
